Kidnapping of Guthrie's mother

News media has choices on how to spend their time. I think MSNow just spent over 30+ minutes talking about the kidnapping of Savannah Guthrie's mother. I get it, it's one of their own.
That said, when you only spend 5 minutes on the Epstein files or 10 minutes on ice abuse but spend such significant time and resources on stuff like this it comes across as very self serving and makes it loud and clear that they don't consider us regular people as important.
It's still being covered. It's like her whole show time for this one story.

Sorry, I find it insulting to the pain and suffering of the public right now. There are significant issues going on right now that they are choosing to cover the kidnapping of a single person and not the ongoing civil rights violations of ice and this administration.

The media is spending a lot of time on civil rights violations in this administration. The miscreants at ICE are floating on top of the media reports flow without a doubt. The thing with the Guthrie kidnapping is all the questions. No one knows as of this writing whether Nancy Guthrie is still alive. (The picture of the masked intruder today asks that question again.) All the questions in the case take a lot of time to report. Is the media giving more time to this story because of Savannah Guthrie? It's possible, but remember, too, that if this wasn't a relative of Savannah Guthrie, the names of the relatives would be a lot less familiar and wouldn't resonate in our heads so much. But the facts surrounding the kidnapping would still be a big story, IMO, because people want to know about it. There's a lot of unknown information on this case still out there. And as long as there is, the story will be alive. Not because of Savannah Guthrie but because of the need to find the facts and report them.

The national media frequently makes local stories into national ones for one reason or another. It bothers me to no end. Whether its a high school girl missing on vacation out of the country or some guy dying while resisting arrest, these aren't national stories and they take away from more important issues that affect us all.

But back when I was in newspapers, reader interest had a lot to do with it. This was before website clicks (yeah, that long ago), but I'm sure that figures into it somewhat today. But the bottom line is reader interest. And as I wrote earlier, it's a story that people would care about even if Savannah Guthrie wasn't involved. An elderly woman gets kidnapped. That's gonna be a heart tugger no matter who it is or who she's related to. Look at what happened with Liam Ramos, the five year old kid kidnapped by ICE.

Corporate news and their advertisers spend fortunes on ratings consultants and advisors, etc. If more people tuned in for stories on civil rights violations, that's what we'd get

It’s getting more coverage today because the door camera that we were told had no footage of the crime unexpectedly did (recovered from back servers). And the footage is really creepy but very revealing. For better or worse, a lot of people find this story fascinating. I would imagine that the perp will be found soon and coverage will taper off.

The problem is they don't choose to. I hope Samantha Guthrie's mom comes home safe and sound, although that hope diminishes the more time she's gone. The Epstein story is important to and should be discussed more. Maybe that would irritate their Republican bosses.
