(16,508 posts)..."During the deposition, Maxwell invoked blanket Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination and declined to answer questions from the Committee. After the deposition, her lawyer made public the statement he gave in the deposition, stating that she will only provide an unfiltered account if she receives clemency.
As was evidenced this morning, Ghislaine Maxwell did not provide information to the committee and instead invoked her blanket Fifth Amendment rights, Rep. Stansbury said. While we are not able to speak to the specifics of what was said within the deposition until the deposition record is made public, it is very clear that she used this opportunity to not only campaign for clemency as she has been doing, but also to send a direct message that she is hoping that people who were sitting in the deposition will transmit to the president of the United States: which is that her silence can be bought through clemency.
Stansbury said she remains committed to seeking justice for the survivors, holding those who committed those heinous crimes accountable, and those who have been actively engaged in a cover-up of this case and lied to the American people.
Let us be clear that Donald Trump is not only named thousands of times in the latest release from the Department of Justice, but he is named over 38,000 times in the files that were released two weeks ago alone, Stansbury said. And we know that that only represents half of the files that the Department of Justice has in its possession, including files that were used for direct investigations of perpetrators, people who committed crimes, people who were co-conspirators in those crimes, and individuals who knew of those crimes. We know that there are more than three dozen associates, family members, and individuals directly associated with Donald Trump named in those files.

(13,339 posts)America doesnt have a stong track record of holding highly placed criminals accountable. One hand generally washes the other.
My hope is that with strong, determined and outspoken women, such as Stansbury, and others, justice might finally be served.
