No!! It's NOT his job to funnel unlimited resources to Israel. This has to stop! And those who motivate it have to go. I've really tried to be patient with thise who served for so long, but they've obviously become out of touch with current reality and don't seem to have much interest is getting reconnected. So it's time for some retirements.

(6,095 posts)I am powerless to do anything about it.
Me either. I'm probably just shouting into the void. But the comments from over the weekend were one of those "last straw" kind of things that I just couldn't suppress a reaction to.

(93,686 posts)...Schumer isn't the king of the Democrats in the Senate, much less have any ability to 'funnel' anything on their behalf right now in the minority.
Whatever he says on Israel is his own initiative, and likely that of his constituency in NY.
You from there?
Like I was saying above. A last straw reaction.
SocialDemocrat61
(7,143 posts)and have had problems with Schumers rabid support for Israel for years. His job is to represent the people of New York, not a foreign country with a terrible record on human rights.
Hope he steps down as leader after the midterms and retires at the end of his term.

One analysis reports Schumer has received roughly $1.7 million from AIPAC or allied pro-Israel donors, making him a leading Senate recipient; other reporting situates pro-Israel giving to members of Congress at about $58 million in a recent election cycle, indicating heavy and concentrated financial flows to lawmakers.

Even Bermie Sanders hasn't called on Schumer to step down.

(66,791 posts)After Biden was pressured to step down, and the throttling that the media gave Dems over it in the aftermath, it's unlikely that we'd see open calls for any Dem leadership, however dubious, to step down.

(10,214 posts)...it's LESS likely there will be calls for our """Establishment""" leaders to step down rather than MORE.
So, yeah, I'm not buying that excuse one bit.
Oh, and Sanders, when asked if Schumer should be replaced, responded with, "by whom?"
Can you answer him? And once you do, tell us how his replacement would have actually changed anything that people are criticizing Schumer for in the first place?

Its not my responsibility to declare who the leader should be, though its certainly my right to criticize the current leader and his strongly worded letters. Next youll ask what Im doing to defeat Republicans, as if I have the position and financial backing to engage in such measures.
And in any case its a false dichotomy to require me to name Schumers replacement. Just because I cant tell wholl succeed him, that doesnt mean I cant fault him for tepid leadership.
Why is he not holding daily press conferences about ICE? Why isnt he holding daily press conferences about the Epstein files?
Youre so quick to criticize me for not doing Schumers job better than he does it, but youre fine with him doing the same.

Not sure why our friend thought, "Who will replace him?" was a gotcha question. We have a deep bench. It would be great if we let them out of the dugout.
And I DO live in NY, and I'll never vote for Schumer in a primary again.

(9,722 posts)My impression at the time was that POTUS Biden was strongly in favor of a two-state solution and that weapons provided to Israel were contingent on actions by Israel not being as drastic.
Looks to me that Isreal's response to the Hamas attack cost the Democratic the POTUS and gave the World Trump.
Netanyahu says Trump is best POTUS. The flow of arms and monies continues to foster the Greater Israel project. Too many Israelis support the genocide and land thefts.
The "left" is the scapegoat that admittedly acted abysmally but POTUS Biden could had persevered if not pressured by donors and Democratic leadership less committed to a two-state solution and early and real ceasefire.

It's not my responsibility to determine who is elected senator in NY.

(392 posts)Schumer, being minority leader is a slightly different case though. And - hold on to you hat here - some people think that advocating for changes that they think will be beneficial, even if they can't personally effect them, is a good thing. So they do so.

(13,794 posts)But I take your point that Schumer has more influence than other Senators. I would agree that voters in other states have a legit say in whether he should be minority leader.
