I'm not a Pollyanna type. But recent events have caused me to see how fortunate I am. I love my little community. It is not perfect, and affordability here in CA is a serious problem. But I still love it. I love the people. We are a majority Hispanic, blue city and living here is a gift. I love the scenery, the weather (70 plus degrees today, sorry) and the mostly the people. ALL of them. From the maga neighbor who thinks trump is wonderful but helped us when we had an emergency on Christmas Eve, to the homeless lady who smiles every time we give me her a few bucks, to the majority who just want to live and let live. The "vibe" here is casual and nonjudgmental. It is our community and our way of life and we love it.
Why am I bringing this up? Well, it dawned on me that that's what people in MN feel. They love their neighbors and community. And nothing is more threatening to trump. He does not want us to feel this way. He wants us hating and divided and resentful.
But MN fought back. We all owe them big time. And we all need to be ready when our time comes.

(67,889 posts)I loved living there but we got old and needed to move into a retirement community where we could have an apartment and a lot of supportive services. I get a strong liberal vibe from folks here, however, and I hope this is not just my wishful thinking. However, there are no polls of folks here, it's just my wishful thinking; I haven't gotten into any conversations with folks yet. That will come, I am sure.

(24,350 posts)Obviously it's much more difficult when you're older. It sounds like you have a good attitude though and that's half the battle!

Honor them.

(AKA social murder.)
THEY WANT US TO DESPAIR.
They want to believe that they have us all hating one another. Oops for them.
Thank you for the discussion, senseandsensibility.

(24,350 posts)I had a kind of epiphany last week when I drove through my town and saw all the familiar sites, from the homeless lady wearing her Santa garb, to the old neighborhoods with classic homes lovingly cared for by immigrants and older white people alike, to the familiar faces at my grocery store, to the "youths" as my hubby and I call them, leaving the local HS in droves. Just normal scenes, but beautiful in their own way. Everyone free and peaceful. I haven't been feeling appreciate of this or anything else lately, thanks to trump. And that's what he wants. So I decided not to give in to that anymore if that makes sense.
