Samsung's Next Salvo Against Apple: A Triple-Folding Smartphone

The U.S. will soon get its first mass-market smartphone that folds not just once, but twice.

Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Z TriFold is expected to hit the shelves in the U.S. as early as the first quarter of 2026, after it goes on sale in South Korea and elsewhere this month.

The new phone is the latest salvo in Samsung’s long-running battle with Apple, which is expected to introduce its own foldable phone—likely a once-folding model—later next year. Samsung has offered foldable phones since 2019.

The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is the first multi-folding phone to be released globally. Huawei has already introduced a tri-folding phone that is mainly sold in China.

But if it’s anything like the original folding phone they released a few years ago, no thanks.

I heard a lot of stories about the reliability. It’s not surprising, considering the hinge. And this has one more? More moving parts means more failure points…

I appreciate that they keep pushing the bar with technology. I personally don’t see the point with the additional fold, but I guess this does replace any need for an additional tablet.
