TX-15: Republicans Flipped South Texas. Can a Moderate Tejano Singer Take It Back?

Wearing jeans and cowboy boots, Bobby Pulido insisted he was feeling a little rusty at a skeet shooting competition this month in the border city of Weslaco, Texas. But when the clay pigeon thrower hurled the targets into the air, he steeled his nerves, pointed his shotgun and blasted six out of six.

“It’s precision and calculation,” Mr. Pulido, a Tejano singer and Latin Grammy Award winner, said, explaining how he anticipates where the target is headed before pulling the trigger.

A household name in the Rio Grande Valley and beyond with a career in show business spanning three decades, Mr. Pulido, 52, knows that he will need that level of precision to translate his celebrity into a political career. He is trying to take back Texas’ 15th congressional district from a Republican who flipped it in 2022 after 118 years of Democratic control.

The wider Rio Grande Valley moved sharply toward President Trump in 2024, sending shock waves to the nation as the Democrats lost their grip on the Hispanic vote.

I'm sure their new lines attempted to shore up vulnerable districts

6. Texas, apart from a handful of districts, is going to elect Republicans whether they call themselves that or not.

You know, like Greg Casar of TX-35, who is DSA.

If the Democratic Party is merely a faction of the Republicans, well, enjoy your "win."

Moderates are wannabe, has been and never was Republicans. Their function is to sabotage any legislation that would benefit ordinary people, as part of the plan to increase the wealth, privilege and power of the wealthy, privileged and powerful.

If that's what everyone wants, why bother having two parties? Perhaps they should merge so they can bipartisan ever more closely.

9. You forget the first vote in every Congress is the most important vote

The first vote is for Speaker. In the House the speaker has enormous power in what comes to a vote. Yes, there is the elaborate discharge petition, but that is the exception. Also having the Speaker, gives you the chair of all the standing committees and with that subpoena power.

It is incredibly important that we win one of the Houses of Congress to have any real check on Trump .. and the House is more likely. So, yes, we should welcome moderates to our caucus.

4. You DO know the seat is currently held by a Republican right?

He has an excellent chance of flipping the seat. Or would you rather we keep the Republican? We’re not going to win the House by running 218+ Democratic Socialists.
