According to The Post and Courier, a Spartanburg County deputy was sitting in his patrol car when he took a photo of himself in a ski mask and captioned his social post with, To find a YN, you must be a YN.
YN is the abbreviated form of young n****.

That kind of stuff will absolutely not be tolerated under any circumstances at this agency under my leadership, Rhyne said at a press conference, per WYFF. What we do in uniform and the things and the choices that we make in uniform not only reflects on themselves, but it reflects on every man and woman that wears this uniform, not only here at the sheriffs office, but across the entire state in the United States.
Rhyne said the deputy violated policies that dictate that staff members must not behave in ways that discredit themselves or the sheriffs office or post ethnically derogatory material on social media.

unfortunately, there are lots of special idiots in law enforcement.
Kudos to this Sheriff for taking swift action and he'll probably lose his POST certification.

Good to hear that the Sheriff moved so quickly, so many would have tried to bury it.

(17,304 posts)and I'll bet that the former Sheriff encouraged this behavior, or if he didn't, he sure didn't do anything to address it and weed out the bad cops.
I'm guessing the reason this cop was fired so quickly is because the new Sheriff was aware of this cops racist tendencies and was closely watching him.
Glad to see this Sheriff taking out the trash and attempting to get rid of the bad cops.

(17,304 posts)good one, though, highly unlikely.
For the Sheriff to take such swift action, such as termination and possible revocation of his POST certification, there had to be some sort of history with this former deputy.
MarineCombatEngineer
(17,304 posts)I'll bet there's some other punishments in there that the former Sheriff ignored.
This new Sheriff sounds like a stand up person who will no longer tolerate this bullshit and I hope he cleans house of the obvious bad deputies.

(18,036 posts)Perhaps the Enforcers should identify the white supremacist officer. Why protect him?
Certainly he has a name, right?
MarineCombatEngineer
(17,304 posts)his name will be released, there's no way they can keep that secret very long, the reasoning is to give the deputy time to inform his family of his termination and the likely revocation of his POST certification.
The reasoning is bullshit, the public has a right to know, but it is what it is.

(420 posts)Standards vary so much by state. I only respond because your post seems to minimize the wandering bad officer issue that has improved, but still remains.
As far as I can tell, South Carolina requires the council can only revoke certification if the officer falsified info on application for certification or training, did not complete required training, or one of the following:
a. Conviction, plea of guilty, plea of no contest or admission of guilt (regardless of withheld adjudication) to a felony, or a crime punishable by a sentence of more than one year (regardless of the sentence actually imposed, if any), or a crime of moral turpitude in this or any other jurisdiction;
b. Unlawful use of a controlled substance;
c. The repeated use of excessive force in dealing with the public and/or prisoners;
d. Dangerous and/or unsafe practices involving firearms, weapons, and/or vehicles which indicate either a willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property;
e. Physical or psychological abuse of members of the public and/or prisoners;
f. Misrepresentation of employment-related information;
g. Dishonesty with respect to his/her employer;
h. Untruthfulness with respect to his/her employer;
i. Violations of criminal law resulting from administrative inquiries.
Provided however that in considering whether to withdraw certification based on misconduct, the Council may consider the seriousness, frequency and any mitigating circumstances surrounding the act or omission constituting or alleged to constitute misconduct.
It seems that this horrible act may not fit in one of these categories and even if it did, enforcement is somewhat discretionary.
MarineCombatEngineer
(17,304 posts)It's right there at the end of the article.
That's why I posted that he will likely have his POST cert. revoked.

(420 posts)My point still stands about wandering bad officers. I feel we too often have the mistaken belief that an officers misconduct will take them off the streets for good, but sadly this is not the case. States vary as to how committed they are to the decertification process. There are also some states that allow recertification if the conduct wouldnt lead to decertification in the state. Whether he is actually decertified by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy will depend on whether they can prove that his misconduct fits one of the enumerated categories provided above. It is not clear they can. Violating department policies doesnt seem to be one of them.

(17,304 posts)he does have the right to appeal.
This racist POS has no business being in Law Enforcement, he has no business being in any position of authority and hopefully his cert. is revoked permanently.
