President Trump announced on Friday afternoon his intention to grant a Full and Complete Pardon to a former president of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, who was found guilty by an American jury last year of conspiring to import cocaine into the United States in a sweeping drug case.
The pardon announcement came in a pair of social media posts by Mr. Trump, who has repeatedly weighed in on that countrys upcoming election on Sunday. He had already endorsed a candidate, a former mayor from the conservative National Party named Nasry Tito Asfura.
Tito and I can work together to fight the Narcocommunists, and bring needed aid to the people of Honduras, wrote Mr. Trump, who was spending the holiday weekend at his Mar-a-Lago resort.
Mr. Asfura, who belongs to the same party as Mr. Hernández, spent much of a highly contested race courting leaders in Washington, including members of Mr. Trumps inner circle. The cause of Mr. Hernández, who was also convicted of possessing and conspiring to possess destructive devices, including machine guns, has been taken up separately by figures including Roger Stone, the conservative political operative.

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (AP) President Donald Trump said Friday that he will be pardoning former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez, who in 2024 was convicted for drug trafficking and weapons charges and sentenced to 45 years in prison.
The president explained his decision on social media by posting that according to many people that I greatly respect, Hernandez was treated very harshly and unfairly.
In March of last year, Hernandez was convicted in U.S. court of conspiring to import cocaine into the U.S.A. He had served served two terms as the leader of the Central American nation of roughly 10 million people.
Hernandez has been appealing his conviction and serving time at the U.S. Penitentiary, Hazelton in West Virginia.

(1,767 posts)Trump charges at least $1 million per pardon, more of you're really rich. Doesn't matter if you're a heinous violent criminal, if you can pay you're golden.

(335 posts)Why the hell are we breaking international laws and murdering people on the Venezuelan coast with NO evidence of criminal activity while pardoning admitted drug/ crypto criminals,
some of which plead guilty in court and he STILL pardons them?!!!!!!
This criminal deviant is so backwards, upside down and inside out it literally boggles the rational mind.
How in the hell do his cult followers rationalize this stupidity?

(167 posts)A leader once bragged with bravado,
That the drugs hed assist in their travel-o.
From the courts witness stand,
Came a tale far from grand
A narcostates bitter crescendo.
In New York, the prosecutors laid bare
How a president poisoned the air.
With cartels in cahoots,
And corruption that roots,
They claimed millions were made in his lair.
Forty-five years was the fate
That the judge for his crimes did create.
A conviction so vast,
Echoing shadows of past
A landmark for justice and state.
But then came a twist most bizarre,
When a pardon sped in like a car.
A political storm,
Breaking every known norm,
Left observers just asking, How far?
For the tale says a friend whispered soft,
And a presidents judgment went aloft.
With a shrug and a grin,
Trump dove further in
A decision critics labeled as off.
Outside courts, Hondurans cried loud,
Holding signs, standing firm, fiercely proud.
No clemency! they pled,
For the havoc long spread
Justice fleeting, yet briefly allowed.
Now the story grows stranger each night,
As impulses outweigh the right.
With each reckless decree,
Comes a wave of unease
And observers brace hard for the plight.
Some worry the lines have all blurred,
That no protest in power is heard.
If tomorrow grew grim,
And dissenters looked dim
Would a single voice rise, undeterred?
