Trump reminds me of my narcissistic father.

Almost reflex to punish me for opposing him for any and all reasons, starting when I was a teen.

Even when he said something wrong and I'd counter with correct facts, I was in the crosshairs.

He saw me as being arbitrarily defiant and challenging his authority. And it was a warning to my siblings and to my mother not to try it.

I believe he saw me in terms of a psychological stance called ODD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder. While I can't prove it, I'm certain that my father was thinking of ways to "put me away" for my persistent challenging him.

Trump is like this. Say or do anything that doesn't agree with him, BOOM! You'll be investigated, indicted, tried, convicted, and put in prison, maybe "hung".

While this doesn't exactly trigger PTSD in me, it isn't pleasant to recall.

What I call the 'Red Queen Stage' where any and all who even seem contrary to his royal whims face the demand of... "Off with their heads!" As the Red Queen in Through the Looking Glass.

He must be sated in every desire immediately or else.

Still waiting to see him gone by whatever route succeeds.

Can't make up my mind if I want him gone soon or at the end of his term. If soon, we'd have JD Vance
implementing project 2025 rather fast and how to deal with that.

If he lives to finish his term out, he'll have made a majority of Rs questioning why they vote R.

And yes, I see so many parallels. And the dementia just exacerbates it.

I manage them as best I can.

I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. And I empathize with you 1000%.

I can’t say more as we both visit these political forums and my handle is very distinctive.

and brings actual flashbacks to my own father who was a sexual abuser and a narcissist.

The wheedling tone of his voice, the sing-song threats, the anger over anything that doesn't fit his world view, the belief that the entire world exists only for him....it's all so horribly familiar.

It does tell me that it was a good thing that my own father had no power or money, because he would have been a worse monster than he was.

We'd have terrible political fights, make up, and laugh.

I miss him greatly.

He stood by me, and I by him, as my mother died, which happened exactly 50 years ago yesterday.

I loved him very much.

Unfortunately there are/were a lot of fathers like that. It must’ve been something in the water.

Think about the world view you would have if you thought like this.

In the farthest stretches of my imagination, I can’t get there.

But that ain't gonna happen. I can't get myself to watch Fox News for 2 minutes, let alone 1000 hours.
