From the day it was launched, I don't think I read a single account of "the Comey Case" in which ANY JOURNALIST said "WOW...they have one hell of a case here."
And...whatever we think of Comey's URGENT EXPLOSIVE SUPER IMPORTANT NOTHINGBURGER "memo" about HILLARY'S EMAILS and its timing, and EVEN THOUGH many believe it turned the tides in Trump's favor in the eleventh hour, Trump STILL viewed him as an enemy, as a target.
John Roberts clothed the infant Trump in swaddling clothes and anointed his head with holy oil, proclaiming "You ARE the Christ child, go forth and do as you wish, with no fear of consequences of any kind."
I KNOW Trump is probably STILL PISSED OFF that Republicans were not able to "successfully" impeach Joe Biden. And if you followed that story, you know Trump asked them "How MANY TIMES are you going to impeach him," because Trump was impeached TWICE, so Biden had to be impeached AT LEAST three times, although four would probably have made him do his fucking moron dance, and...ladies and gentlemen, President Joe Biden, still 100% IMPEACHMENT-FREE.
As Trump "suffered great indignities" in his first term, as Jeff Sessions...and later, Bill Barr...failed to execute every one of his orders to the letter, causing Trump to whine "WHERE IS MY ROY COHN," we now know that Bondi is Trump's Roy Cohn.
PART OF WHAT TRUMP DOES is attempt to INDTIMIDATE PEOPLE AGAINST CROSSING HIM.
I think he was PROBABLY TOLD that there was zero chance that Comey would be heading off to a prison cell.
But it cost Comey TIME and MONEY and the basic humiliation of having it all out in the press, so...mission accomplished, and food for thought for ANY GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL who's sitting on the fence about reciting the TRUMP LOYALTY OATH.

(2,477 posts)The media were the ones who blew up a really pretty mundane letter the Comey sent to Congress simply because he was previously obligated to do so if FBI decided to inspect any other pieces of evidence in the case (an obligation which was GQP fuckery in the first place). It wasn't even really true that Comey "reopened the case" and yet the GQP flying monkeys and M$M trumpeted that false storyline for days, with days of talking heads blabbering like this was some huge new development. There was also the detail that Comey was reportedly facing threats from wingnut agents from the NY office were going to "go public" with it if he didn't report the laptop to Congress (at least, that's how I vaguely recall the story).
I dunno. I don't really hate the guy as much as other people do, I don't sense he *intended* the outcome of Hillary losing the election, and that he was mostly just fulfilling an obligation he had to Congress. And I still give him some leeway because of how he handled the whole 2004 NSA surveillance issue when Ashcroft was in the hospital and Gonzalez tried to get him to sign off on the program (on behalf of DoJ) when he was all loopy and Comey was a major actor in getting Gonzalez to fuck off and leave without Ashcroft's sig. That showed integrity to me
