$49,000 vs. $3,000,000

Three million is not the vast fortune it used to be, but it still dwarfs $49,000.

While he was in the Senate, the title of “the poorest senator” long went to Joe Biden. Housing in DC is so expensive, he used to commute by train to and from his home in Delaware. That’s a 90 minute commute each way. It may not seem like much to some, but take it from one who usually travels between two and five hours each way to work (depending on which country I have to be in on any given day), it can get old.

Joe has a heart of gold. I just know that Bernie for many years wasn't a millionaire until he wrote a book to get a vacation house for his wife I believe. I wish it were possible to get money out of politics but republicans will never vote for that.

I hope AOC will run for senate, I think Michelle is right America is not ready for a woman yet for president.

Also, Bernie is married and his wife may contribute to their net worth. AOC’s constituents know her commitment to service and her intentions are not financial gain. I think this, among other factors, plays into her integrity and hopefully, political future.

It has worked for other politicians, and I'm sure AOC would have interesting stories to tell. Often a popular book will lead to speaking engagements, for which she could charge a modest fee.

Of course, it helps to be an ex-POTUS in high demand for their spellbinding oratory skills. But who knows? In 25 years, maybe she’ll be exactly that.

She’s elected to do so to avoid any conflict of interest. How many of her colleagues in Congress to you supposed have elected to do so too?

She should start her own Youtube channel, I guess, "for a few dollars more"....

We don't require our elected representatives to take a vow of poverty,
but she appears to have done so on her own---

at least we can be confident that she hasn't been "bought" by anyone!

Initially, I had concerns she was frightening the centrist electorate. The "squad" asserted their independence and made suggestions that Socialism might afford some way for lunchbox Americans to keep pace with an economy primarily beneficial to investors and Corporations... you know... Socialism.
I'm glad they have leavened their approach and improved their image as the opposition.
I think AOC is learning quickly, and I look forward to seeing great things from.her.
The Future looks better to me that way.

Who was saying she is not anything like us.....He says she has a $4 Million townhouse in the Bronx, so for net $50,000 she would have to have already cleared enough to cover the home value at 33 years old. Is this correct? I thought Net worth is just cash on hand.

For instance, you have a $400k home and own half the equity.
Your retirement account & any other investments or cash is also $400k
Your assets are $800k but you still own $200k on your house & 9k on your car.
Your net worth is $800k - $210k = $590k
Cash on hand is in there somewhere but is usually a small component.

(Marjorie Taylor) Greene’s financial journey is as unconventional as her political career. Since joining Congress in 2021, her net worth has skyrocketed, jumping from around $700,000 to as much as $25 million. As of October 2025, Marjorie Taylor Greene’s estimated net worth is approximately $25 million, which marks a significant increase from before she took office.
