One of my favorite prep cooks, an incredible Latina immigrant, had a horrific experience recently...

…and it's not even ICE.

She had her second child recently; she came back from maternity leave two weeks ago…for one day.

She left her TWO MONTH OLD INFANT with her baby daddy, and when she got back…the baby had been beaten so badly she needed a week in the ICU. From her GoFundMe (I am not linking it and I am not asking for donations, just quoting it because it's the best description):

Hello, my name is Grace and I am only two months old. Today, I am asking for your support. My mom left me in my father’s care so she could go to work, trusting that I would be safe. Unfortunately, I returned with very serious injuries: fractures in my ribs, my tiny arms, and my legs, along with burns and multiple bruises throughout my body. I also had internal bleeding and needed surgery on my arms.

Two months old.

I am beyond words, and beyond fury, as are all of us at work.

He did it in here in DC.

So he's under Judge Jeannie and Cheeto Benito's minions.

It's one time I will say I'm okay with this…a sketchy Latino beating a baby? The things they'll do to him…

Also, did he normally live with the baby? (I hope not). Ugh.

As in on her first and only day back, N shared a cute video of the baby crying a lot, and said "she misses me, aww".

It's a common abuse excuse.

This completely breaks my heart. That poor baby. What kind of monster would do that to a poor, defenseless infant? I hope there's a long prison sentence in his future.

I pray the baby doesn't suffer any long-term disabilities from that asshole.

This is one of many reasons why I don’t see pediatric patients anymore. They once brought in an eleven month old infant covered with bruises. Her mother’s boyfriend had beaten her, and she needed an exam to enter into the legal record.

The state-appointed caregiver was very protective of and affectionate toward her charge. But before I began the examination, I turned away for a moment to squeeze back some tears. The caregiver seemed to understand, and didn’t say anything.

I examined the girl carefully and very gently, and by the end of the examination, she was smiling at me. The perp was in jail, and the baby was safe and well cared-for. But when I got back to my office, it was all I could to keep from rage-kicking holes in the wall.

It wasn’t long after that when I stopped seeing pediatric patients for good.

as "another example of immigrant crime" to bolster and justify their support of ICE and their followers.

…handing this particular subhuman over to Judge Jeannie and Stephen Miller is entirely fine with me.

Whatever they do to it is no concern of mine.

but my comment was meant to convey that MAGATs, etc. will use this to unjustly stereotype and condemn ALL immigrants as they have done in so many instances previously. How many times do we hear reports that specifically mention an undocumented immigrant's status as soon as they are restrained and before innocence or guilt has been established? Too often a person is initially deemed guilty only because they are undocumented, with no due process.

It asked for $5,000…it's currently over $10,000.
