Johnson attempted to defend the presidents language, dismiss it, and scold Democrats all in the same breath as reporters hunted him down on Capitol Hill to get his take on Trumps wild posts.
He told reporters the uproar was misplaced. According to him, Trump was simply defining the crime of sedition. That is a factual statement, he said, insisting that lawyers would need to parse the statute. It was Democrats, he claimed, who were acting wildly inappropriate.
Johnson acknowledged he hadnt seen the full string of Trumps comments, an excuse the speaker frequently leans on. He nonetheless joined the president in going after the six Democrats who had addressed military personnel.
For a senator like Mark Kelly or any member of the House or Senate to behave in that kind of talk is to me so just beyond the pale, he said, abruptly ending with, Im not going to say anything more on it.

He is one of the most dishonest people Ive ever seen in the Republican Party, and thats saying something. If you want to be a Trump lackey, at least own up to it.

(27,875 posts)The Republicans have had some pretty awful people running for President and Vice-President for a number of decades, like 15 or so, but theyre nothing to touch their Speakers of the House. What a bunch.

And you probably remember the "smiling from ear to ear" photo of him holding his coveted Speakers gavel for the first time.
He was chewed up and spit out pretty quickly, but I wonder if Mikey is "worse."
The fake Christian thing and the furious spinning of lies DOES tip the odds in Johson's favor, but McCarthy was just a WORM. They both are, so maybe a coin toss is in order.

(21,187 posts)...no, the Military is NOT REQUIRED TO FOLLOW ILLEGAL ORDERS.
I KNOW Leavitt, Johnson, all of the rest ALREADY KNOW THIS and DO NOT NEED TO BE TOLD (and they've been told, ANYWAY, REPEATEDLY)...
...and they just pivot back to the "sedition" thing.
So I wonder, if Military members...since Trump sees them as suckers and losers...would receive the same pardons and legal aid as his January 6 MAGAts?
And that's not even the issue...why the HELL should they be put through that ordeal, while he sits back in the White House, stuffing his fat face with Big Macs and planning his "ballroom?"

(21,187 posts)And, yes, it's corrupt power, and we're all waiting for the Hitler in the Bunker moment, so the reason is that EVEN THOUGH Bush & Cheney "colored outside of the lines" with Iraq (and I'm putting it mildly), Reagan did the same when he sold arms to the Contras, and Nixon had Watergate, they all sort of pale in proximity to Trump's corruption.
It's "I'm going to do whatever the hell I want to do until you stop me," and since John Roberts anointed him as unstoppable, Mikey is right next to that, so yeah. Getting teabagged by Trump probably gives him a rush like that first winter run down the ski slopes in Colorado.

(173,457 posts)On Thursday, the president accused Democrats of seditious behavior, punishable by DEATH! On Friday, he kept the offensive going.
As Trumpâs offensive against Democratic veterans extends into a second day, a thought:

Trump on threatening members of Congress: âI'm not threatening death, but I think they're in serious trouble. In the old days, it was death.â

.....For good measure, he added, But in the old days, if you said a thing like that, that was punishable by death. What they said is, I mean, I dont know about the modern-day things, because, you know, modern day is a lot softer.
Trump concluded that the military veterans broke the law, though he didnt explain which law was broken. (The president has a habit of defining illegal as stuff I dont like.)
Right off the bat, its worth emphasizing that any sentence that begins, Im not threatening death, but is the sort of line a political leader shouldnt deliver......
On Capitol Hill, Democratic Rep. Jason Crow of Colorado a decorated military veteran who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan is seeking a U.S. Capitol Police investigation into Trump for what he described as intimidating, threatening, and concerning threats the president made. Democratic Rep. Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania, an Air Force veteran who also appeared in the video in question, told The New Republics Greg Sargent that she made a similar appeal to the Capitol Police.
Whether such an investigation will actually happen remains unclear, though if a regular person sent members of Congress a message accusing them of SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH! its a safe bet law enforcement would follow up and knock on the senders door.
