Amy McGrath on Monday officially launched another Kentucky Senate bid, aiming to take the seat held by retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell.
McGrath, a retired fighter pilot, announced her candidacy on X, saying the Bluegrass state deserves a senator battle-tested and ready to fight.
I know what courage looks like. Right now, way too many politicians dont, and Americans are being thrown under the bus by cowards in Washington without the moral backbone to serve our nation with honor, McGrath said in her announcement.
In 2019, McGrath ran against McConnell in one of the most expensive senate races in Kentucky history. In 2018, she raised nearly $8 million in her House run. She narrowly lost that race to Republican Rep. Andy Barr.

McGrath, who announced a challenge to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell this week, tweeted that she would have opposed Kavanaughs nomination to the Supreme Court several hours after she told a local newspaper she probably would have supported him.
I was asked earlier today about Judge Brett Kavanaugh and I answered based upon his qualifications to be on the Supreme Court. But upon further reflection and further understanding of his record, I would have voted no, McGrath tweeted Wednesday evening.
Later she added: I know I disappointed many today with my initial answer on how I would have voted on Brett Kavanaugh. I will make mistakes and always own up to them. The priority is defeating Mitch McConnell.
Those tweets came several hours after the Courier-Journal of Louisville published an interview with McGrath in which she said she had concerns about Kavanaugh but likely would have supported him.

Pro-Trump Democrat?
CJ: Are you a pro-Trump Democrat? And how do you separate people who will vote for Trump but may not for Sen. McConnell?
McGrath: This business of pro-Trump, anti-Trump you're just putting people in a box. Folks just aren't like that. ... I want to do what's best for Kentucky, and when President Trump has good ideas, I'm going to be for them. To me it's not about your political party, it's not about wearing a red jersey or blue jersey, OK? And that was something I talked about last campaign. If President Trump has good ideas, I'll be for them. At the same time, if I think he's wrong I'm going to stand up to him and that's the difference one the of major differences between myself and Sen. McConnell.
