No political movement will collapse faster than Republicanism the moment Trump is out of the picture. All of his heirs can't wait to knife each other and none of them individually has even 10% of the juice that Trump has with the median chud voter.

Someone looking at all this with a cold eye might say that Miller and Hegseth are seeking control over the power ministries before a Vance ally invokes the 25th Amendment.

I have posed this question on DU more than once, "When tRump dies or can no longer function both mentally and physically, will Vance be able to continue the admin's agenda?".

I have read that it will and I have read that it won't. Is it a 50/50 split?

At this time I have no idea what a crazy cult will do in the future. "Crazy Cult" being the key words.

I foresee a stepwise, inevitable collapse, not a sudden, total change.

…and by the way afaict his flying monkeys are still in residence. Li’l Pervy, the House Speaker, is run by the Evangelical wing.

MAGA dumbshits may collapse in shock when Trump goes to his eternal reward and they realize their gov’t benefits are gone and no one’s left to answer the phone — and JD may have all the charisma of a mangy dog — but plenty of brains and outsized influence will remain to stir the rubble of our ruined republic.

Mon Oct 6, 2025, 07:26 PM

at least at first. But since shady isn't trump, shady's hold on those ministries might not last because he and Thiel don't think like trump.

These are the power ministries Snyder refers to. Being an historian he knows the origin of the "power ministries" label:
The Russian term siloviki gained prominence during the presidency of Vladimir Putin,
who relied heavily on officials from the military and law enforcement agencies.
This led observers to characterize the regime as a "militocracy".
The term highlights the levels of control in political influence these security and defense bodies wield in Russia beyond their stated functions.

The Big Three:
Ministry of Defense (MoD): Manages the armed forces.
Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD): The national police force.
Federal Security Service (FSB): The country's primary security agency.

Other significant agencies that are often included are the:
Ministry of Civil Defense and Emergency Situations (MChS)
Federal Customs Service (FTS)
Federal Guard Service (FSO)
The Procuracy (the system of federal prosecutors)

Can Thiel and Vance out-maneuver Miller and Hegseth? I believe they can. But they likely won't control media or the military the way trump and Vought have.
And so, they will be "the transition" for oligarchs.
Even then, if (the Big IF) the future elections are free and fair, the current administration will (in spite of anti-Dem media) either lose to Dems, cheat, or be taken over by tech oligarchs and AI, imho.

But Trump and the maga reich-wing of the Republican party turned up the heat to full boil. The Democratic party now needs to make sure that as the clueless wake up they find out quickly exactly what is going on and how we got here.

I believe it will be very hard to come up with someone who can “cast a spell” and turn millions of people into cultists like Trump does. If you read up on cults, most of these hard-core MAGATS have been brainwashed and Trump used every trick in the book successfully. I think he has always been like this but also read up on Hitler, etc.

After tRump there are a hundred leaders. Everyone thinks they are an influencer or a force of nature or the true heir or they are just an opportunist seizing an opportunity for personal aggrandizement.

Epstein is not going away and it splits maga.

The pain of economic dislocation will not be fixed by tRump and the economy for the maga tier will continue to get worse with costs rising, especially health care and unemployment. All the wannabes will say "Only I can fix it" but by that point even half of maga will know the RepubliCons have conned them and will stay home.

RepubliCons will be in disarray for quite some time.

One of the hallmarks of a totalitarian dictator is that they keep all their potential heirs close by but in a tier very clearly defined as beneath them by some distance. All together but none are allowed to become too prominent. All are monitored and know they are monitored. Yes men don't step out of line; not even the bellhop with the mascara. So it will be very hard for any wannabes to get traction before or after the event.

If he's around long enough for the GOP to develop into a functional crime organization, it won't matter who's in charge. Right now it's only a dysfunctional crime organization. For example, the KKK started out as a purely political movement.

It's just so bad for our party to listen to this sweet, sweet song of "no need to do anything." Those Obama voters we lost are just gonna come running back to our waiting arms. We don't need to change anything. The MAGA coalition will just collapse, and we'll be there waiting for fate to turn that friendly card. Always worked in the past.

MAGA is an uneasy, hyper-vigilant and ever-paranoid collection of various colonies of pathogens, and they regard each other accordingly - constantly engaged in low-level warfare against each other for a more favorable position on the host.

Trump is the agar that has congealed around these toxic entities and bound them, grudgingly, together They move together like a flaming, gelatinous, killing slime mold carrying their bloated and sticky orange god like a termite queen over the flood waters.
