Another name for right wingers.

(20,381 posts)...I think I know all I need to know about her.
I have an allergy to anyone who uses the word "woke." And I also believe that when right wingers complain about "conservative voices being silenced by woke," what they really want is all voices OTHER THAN "conservative" voices to be silenced.
I may be wrong about that. i doubt it, but I'll leave that door open.

Weiss ascension to CBS News top job is in line with those concessions. Shes railed against DEI, claimed the Me Too movement has gone too far, published content undercutting reports of famine in Gaza and conducted a friendly interview with Peter Thiel on her podcast.
Criticism appears to fuel Weiss rage. In 2018, when she was called out for implying that California-born Olympic figure skater Mirai Nagasu was an immigrant, she refused to apologize and complained on Twitter, now X: For this tweet I am being told I am a racist, a ghoul and that I deserve to die. The pushback, she proclaimed, was a sign of civilizations end.

Weiss has been described as conservative by Haaretz, The Times of Israel, The Daily Dot, and Business Insider. In a 2019 interview with Joe Rogan, she called herself a "left-leaning centrist". According to The Washington Post, Weiss "portrays herself as a liberal uncomfortable with the excesses of left-wing culture" and has sought to "position herself as a reasonable liberal concerned that far-left critiques stifled free speech". Vanity Fair has called Weiss "a provocateur". The Jewish Telegraphic Agency said that her work "doesn't lend itself easily to labels".
The Times of Israel reported that her public fight with The New York Times made her a hero among some conservatives. According to The New York Times, when asked to share something that informed her values at a team retreat, she chose a clip from the show Transparent, which features a trans protagonist. Bari reportedly chose it because "she never wanted to forget the humanity of those with whom she vehemently disagrees".
Weiss has expressed support for Israel and Zionism in her columns. When writer Andrew Sullivan described her as an "unhinged Zionist", she responded that she "happily plead[s] guilty as charged". As of 2024, Weiss had visited Israel over 15 times, including after the October 7 attacks, and compared pro-Israel social media commentators to former Soviet refusenik Natan Sharansky, whose years in prison made him an icon of the movement to free Jews from the Soviet Union.
In 2018, she said she believed the sexual assault allegations against U.S. Supreme Court justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh but questioned whether they should disqualify him from serving on the Supreme Court, because he was 17 when he allegedly assaulted Christine Blasey Ford. After backlash in the press, Weiss conceded that her sound bite was glib and simplistic, and said instead that Kavanaugh's "rage-filled behavior" before the Senate Judiciary Committee should have disqualified him.

The New York Times described The Free Press as "an unflinching alternative to traditional media organizations." David Klion wrote in The Guardian that Bari Weiss "has used The Free Press to empower rightwing factions within established elite institutions" to suppress progressive and pro-Palestine views. He cited as examples, The Free Press's criticism of NPR and their reporting on the Trump administration investigation into alleged antisemitism at Columbia University.
Conservative commentator Andrew Sullivan has criticized The Free Press for what he views as its reluctance to stand up for the free-speech rights of anti-Israel activists. Writing for The New Statesman, the liberal journalist Ross Barkan described the organization as "unapologetically hawkish and anti-Palestinian". The Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft described it as "a pro-Israel media outlet often sympathetic to the neoconservative worldview". Politico described it as a "conservative digital media outlet". CNN described it as a "conservative leaning publication".

(14,689 posts)Can't be too tolerant of the those deviants and those that might upset the status quo, but you'd best be tolerant when I point them out.
Especially need to be tolerent when it's just "civilized people speaking their minds to point out something unpopular"...
Which means she's the type who won't say anything if she feels it's okay that 95% of a certain category group of people need to pay for the misdeeds of 5% of that group. Because "Taxpayer money" or "lazy people looking for handouts", or "they're all uncultured savages who can't or won't live in the modern world anyway..."

(60,580 posts)She appears to speak of the news, not opinion, staff. With people like Maggie Haberman, it is very hard to think that they are all liberal. At any rate, their goal is likely to report accurately on news stories. Here, we as liberals, have often thought they characterized things as often from the right, than the left when they deviated from neutral.
Two examples. The huge abundance of "Biden is old" news articles compared to few (if any) "Trump is losing it" articles, when on at least a weekly basis there are a wealth of examples - something that was not obvious for the Biden stories until the unfortunate debate. Many of the final Charlie Kirk stories repeated Republicans characterizing the murderer as having accepted leftish ideology without any pushback when more accurately it seems he broke with the very MAGA, gun culture of his family on LGBTQ and possibly just that. In contrast, while they reported the Trump support of the man who attacked a Mormon church, killing people and destroying it, they did not challenge that the motivation was not political.
What it could be is that she attributed her lack of friendship with her peers as their dislike of her politics. It might just have been her personality. With the woke comment, I, maybe wrongly, get the impression that she wanted to stand out as different than her peers, who she is characterizing as biased unlike herself.
