PORTLAND, Ore. A statement from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Tuesday described a chaotic protest at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in South Portland Tuesday, claiming that over 100 people had stormed the building and clashed with law enforcement. However, KGWs on-the-ground reporting, as well as interviews with residents nearby, suggest the situation was not as described ...
KGW crews on the scene observed a smaller crowd, with no more than 40 people present.
"It definitely wasnt 100 people," said Adam Marshall, a nearby resident. "Honestly, for the most part, it was pretty peaceful yesterday and it wasnt as chaotic as they were saying" ...
As for the alleged trespassing and attacks on law enforcement, KGW reporters observed only a few protesters over the course of several days crossing a painted line on the ground and one individual placing a sign on the building. Protesters were also seen using strobe flashlights and loudspeakers, though the situation appeared largely non-violent ...

(1,725 posts)They're always as Trump-friendly as they can possibly be in tone, and in the structure of their articles. Same with nearly all journalists and articles lately except some late-night TV, Oliver on HBO, & MSNBC for a few hours each night, on weekdays.
But hey, the freaking AI that writes their bullshit these days can't really understand the real problem, nor express it properly, so this article is basically what we get

The Trump administration activated 200 National Guard troops in Portland on Friday as Oregon officials waited for a court ruling on their request to prevent the deployment.
Lawyers for the city and state had asked a federal judge to grant a temporary restraining order blocking the mobilization.
U.S. District Judge Karin J. Immergut, an appointee of President Donald Trump, said after a two-hour hearing Friday that she would make a decision by the end of the day or Saturday.
But U.S. Northern Command announced hours later, before Immergut issued her ruling, that the troops had been activated by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to support and protect federal personnel and property in the Portland area ...

... U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut, who was appointed by Trump in his first term, opened the hearing by stressing that a Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals panel held earlier this year that judges have the authority to review a presidents decision to federalize the National Guard under an archaic statute.
However, Immergut also took notice of the fact that the appeals panel also said that a courts review must be highly deferential to the presidents decision.
While questioning the DOJ, Immergut noted that Hegseths memo did not cite recent events in Portland. It instead cited the executive order Trump signed in June to deploy at least 2,000 Guard troops to Los Angeles in response to protests over aggressive ICE raids throughout the city.
In his June memo, Trump federalized Guard troops using 10 U.S. Code 12406, an archaic statute that allows the president to mobilize the Guard when the country faces foreign invasion or rebellion or when the president is unable to execute laws with regular resources. Trump claimed that ICE-related unrest in LA amounted to a rebellion against the U.S. government ...
