MI-07: Michigan congressional candidate (D) reveals breast cancer diagnosis, removal
Former Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink, who is running for Congress in mid-Michigan, revealed Friday that she was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer over the summer and had surgery this week to have it removed.
In a statement, her campaign said the surgery successfully removed the cancer, and that her recovery will not require chemotherapy. Brink, a Lansing Democrat, intends to remain in the race for Michigan's competitive 7th District, aiming to target first-term Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett of Charlotte.
The cancer was detected over the summer, she said, during a routine doctor's visit.
"Although this is news no one ever wants to hear, I am so grateful it was detected early, that I have an amazing care team of doctors, and that the cancer has been removed," Brink said in a statement.
