Ian Roberts accused of lying about earning doctoral degree
https://www.yourerie.com/news/local-news/ian-roberts-accused-of-lying-about-earning-doctoral-degree/

New allegations have emerged surrounding the credentials of the former superintendent of the Millcreek School District.

The Des Moines Register has reported Ian Roberts never received a doctoral degree from Morgan State University, as he has claimed.

This astonishing allegation is just one of many that have come to light in the past week, since Roberts was arrested by ICE agents in Iowa.

Erie County, Pennsylvania, is the site of Pennsylvania's shoreline on Lake Erie. The County is of mixed demographics. It has offen favored Democratic Candidates in statewide and presidential races. The county is part of the congressional district of Republican James Kelly. The district's layout runs south one hundred miles to Lawrence and Beaver Counties.

The demographics of Millcreek Township favor Republicans. It is currently a big news story in Erie as to how the Millcreek Township School District's vetting process allowed Ian Roberts to be hired as superintendent, a position he held 2022-2023.

I did that, too. First time I saw my HS transcripts in 50 years. They had to be mailed directly from the school to the state. And to get ahead of your next off topic attempt to make me look like a fool, I saw my transcripts because whenever I have transcripts sent to an employer I have a copy sent to myself.

There are meeting minutes floating around from Millcreek where execution of his contract was held up awaiting proof of his doctorate (which he didn't have at that time he apparently got one later from an online university), as well as an FBI check. The minutes discuss an alternate path to executing the contract, which would give him 90 days to provide the doctorate certification and the FBI check.

So, they either didn't follow up on the doctorate, or he managed to provide something that looked good enough for them to accept.

He also claimed that he attended MIT and that George Washington University named him DC Principal of the Year in 2013...both MIT and GWU say that's untrue.

The process can be cruel.

Coming here for work without having a green card, does not qualify, but people learned if they say the word asylum, they get to stay while their claims are adjudicated. Takes 3-5 years before their claims are heard, and when they get denied (as most do) they face deportation. All of that after starting to build a life here for a few years.

MIT and George Washington dispute Ian Roberts' claims about academic credentials, honors

DES MOINES — More universities have denied claims from Des Moines Public Schools' former superintendent about his education and accomplishments, raising questions about how thoroughly Iowa's largest school district vetted his application.

For years, former Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent Ian Roberts, 54, had claimed he completed programs and was honored at several universities, including Morgan State University and MIT’s Sloan School of Management. Roberts had long stated that he received a doctorate in urban educational leadership from Morgan State University in July 2007.

Morgan State confirmed to the Des Moines Register, part of the USA TODAY Network, on Sept. 30 that Roberts did not obtain a degree from the school, despite attending from the fall of 2002 through the spring of 2007. An MIT spokesperson later told the Register that the school does not have records of Roberts attending.

In addition, Des Moines Public Schools officials wrote in a 2023 news release announcing Roberts' hire that he had previously been honored by the George Washington University as its District of Columbia "Principal of the Year." But a George Washington spokesperson told the Register on Sept. 30 that the "university has no record of awarding such recognition to DC principals, and did not present this award."

After finding out he misrepresented his resume, they should have dug deeper to investigate the rest of his claims. Instead they let him revise one claim to having a doctorate degree, resubmit it, and hired him anyway. Norris, a former Chief of Staff for Michelle Obama, did her campaign for Iowa US Senate no favors, and should resign from the school board.

Des Moines School Board claims it was deceived by Ian Roberts. What to know

DES MOINES, Iowa — Members of the Des Moines School Board have faced flak in the wake of controversies stemming from former Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Ian Roberts.

On Oct. 1, the Associated Press reported that Roberts had not completed one of the doctoral degrees he provided on his initial resume to JG Consulting, which DMPS hired to search for superintendent candidates. JG Consulting flagged the error, and the resume was revised to note that Roberts completed all but his doctoral dissertation, which is required to earn such a degree.

DMPS said the board was aware that Roberts did not complete the doctorate from Morgan State when it hired him.

"The Des Moines School Board is also a victim of deception by Dr. Roberts, one on a growing list that includes our students and teachers, our parents and community, our elected officials and Iowa's Board of Educational Examiners, and others," board chair Jackie Norris said in a statement following news of Roberts' false doctoral claim.

I am amazed he wasn't forced to send transcripts to the state dept of ed. I had to do so (undergrad and grad) so I could get my license and be put on the correct pay scale. Even now that my state no longer pays based on masters I would still have to have supplied that transcript to get my license in the first place.
