This is why #maga people are so angry, and why #leftists should not let up

I learned a term this morning that gave me new clarity and conviction in #progressive beliefs, while simultaneously articulating something I haven't been able to articulate for over 10 years -- that is, WHY it seems there are more right-wing crazies in the world than ever, and why they are still so damn #angry even after winning elections. The concept is called #extinctionburst, and it makes so. much. sense. when you apply it to national #politics.

1. Characteristics, according to Google AI:

Key Characteristics

Increased Responding: The behavior that is being extinguished temporarily increases in frequency, intensity, or duration.

Temporary: The burst is a short-lived phase; the behavior will eventually decrease to low or zero levels as the person learns that the behavior no longer produces a reinforcement.

A Result of Extinction: It happens when the "contingency between a response and its reinforcing consequence is terminated".

Familiar Method: The individual is essentially trying the old method more forcefully, trying to get the desired result, not understanding that the contingency has changed.

Can't say that Krasnov and Nosferatu aren't doing their level best as cheerleaders to keep the hatred flowing.

stunningly bad misinformation, but when they are right it's because websites that need the traffic were ripped off - often with such frequent scraping it increases costs for the website, as it has with DU (EarlG has mentioned this).

They automatically appear at the beginning of things like search results but I bypass them. Among other things, they use huge amounts of power. What good is it for everyone to be in an EV if we're consuming massive amounts of electricity to pull up these somewhat fallacious summaries?

Or go to page https://udm14.com/ to begin your search.

Remember, AI searches consume absurd amounts of energy, adding to GHG-induced global warming. The environment will thank you.

CORRECTION: That's &udm=14 in a Google search (DU doesn't allow = in the title bar)

-ai

Works on every search engine I've tried. Just make sure you put in -AI after whatever you're searching for, and it won't show you any AI results.
(It doesn't need to be in caps.)

12. Such a dumb phrase!

First, it doesn't make any sense because "Dawn is the time that marks the beginning of twilight before sunrise. It is recognized by the appearance of indirect sunlight being scattered in Earth's atmosphere, when the centre of the Sun's disc has reached 18° below the observer's horizon."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dawn

Therefore, there is already sunlight scattering in the atmosphere before "dawn" so it isn't dark. Depending on the observer's location, the darkest time of night on a Moon-less night would probably be between 1:00 and 3:00 AM.

Still. the expression has a poetic quality.

Second, in the context of the post, there is a presumption of an outcome that is not guaranteed.

That would then include all of the Woke Folk who believe in being humanitarian toward their fellow citizens. Love thy neighbor and provide aid and comfort to those in need is not an ideology. Those are things that you do when you want to live in a sane, peaceful and inclusive society. We have strayed so far from those ideals. Even in this hour of darkness, I still believe we can find our way back to a better and just society.

Every time Trump speaks, they are rewarded. Every single day a new outrage (to us) confirms them.

I don't quite get how to apply this.

Where is the evidence that they are not being rewarded? Because to me, it looks like they are. So the behavior persists and even spreads.

They sense they are going to die and they become VERY aggressive.

Kid you not, I once saw a wasp in a wrestling match with a blue jay.

Also on the avoiding AI point, didn't someone here at DU suggest including an expletive in search phrases as a way of weeding out such responses?

Instead of typing "When was knitting invented?", type "When the fuck was knitting invented?" Don't pretend that it won't come naturally to some of you.
