'I Wanted Republicans to Win': Manchin Breaks Silence on 2024 Election

Former Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) reportedly criticizes the Democratic Party in his upcoming book Dead Center: In Defense of Common Sense, directing criticism toward former Presidents Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) while expressing praise for President Donald Trump. He argued that abolishing the Senate filibuster risks weakening the institution and undermining bipartisanship. Manchin further suggested that electing Republicans was necessary to limiting Democrats’ political power.

Manchin said, “Because of what I knew — and what I had seen firsthand — I wanted Republicans to win the Senate majority in 2024.”

Manchin added, “Schumer and the Democrats had already shown their hand — eliminating the filibuster would have been their first order of business.”

In his memoir, Manchin says Schumer pressured him to support key votes, prioritizing party control over Senate traditions. He also recounts tense negotiations with Biden over the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, which he ultimately yielded to under pressure.

The one time in recent memory where Senate filibuster precedent would have prevented them from doing what they wanted, they immediately changed the rules so they could force their MAGA nominees onto the Supreme Court.

So, yes, fuck the filibuster. We should have gotten rid of it, we should run on getting rid of it the next time we are on the majority, and MAGA fascism is on the march and they are well past the point of giving a damn about the silly filibuster at this point.

thanks to gerrymandering, that Democrats could have banned had they gotten rid of it I wish they had. And let's take a look at what might have happened if we had banned it. Maybe abortion could be banned nationwide. For vast numbers of women it has been and the filibuster remains. Just today WI lost all of its abortion providers. Maybe we would have seen massive numbers of employees fired had the filibuster been eliminated. Actually the employees were fired but the filibuster remains. Maybe we would have seen trans people legislated out of existence, oh wait that happened too.

He is a traitor and an a hole. And no way I’d read his book. My late brother had the orange turd book that I had fun tearing up pages and burning in my fireplace. I’d do the same for the Manchin book!

the best way to react to him is ignore him. He is out of office but still craves the attention so he is saying things to get it.

If he has social media don't even reply to him on there.

I could even see a scenario where I would tolerate a Democratic officeholder favoring a Republican presidential candidate in a particular presidential election (obviously not Trump but I could see tolerating (if not agreeing with) a "Democrat for Nixon" in 1972 or a "Democrat for Reagan" in 1980). But a Democratic officeholder openly celebrating the loss of an entire house of Congress - that's just a bridge too far.

Bottom 5 in education, healthcare, mortality, on and on. He never lifted that state 1 inch during his tenure.

A self-important jagoff.

But Blah blah filibuster, blah blah sacred institution, blah blah blah. Buy my shitty book.
