Sadly, what I had predicted for the last 50 years has come to pass here in the USA. My regret is that I didn't do more to prevent it happening, or to at least delay it. Like many other people too busy with daily life and presuming that our freedoms would survive and that somehow magically our Constitution would protect us from tyranny.
Unfortunately the modern Fascists have tools at their disposal that the Nazis could only dream about 80 years ago. Namely, information technology. The weapons of propaganda and surveillance at their disposal are far more powerful that any gun.
Watch for the confluence of technological power with government - Microsoft, Alphabet (Google), Meta, Apple. Watch for the construction of new government data centers like this one:

With the enormous capacity of computing power today, it is a simple matter to have a full dossier on every American citizen which will include every single thing about you from your political beliefs to your sexual orientation to any public statements on forums such as this, or other social media. And it will be updated with your location and and movements in real time in the years to come.
Make no mistake, that will be used to enslave us and to ensure our allegiance to the Corporate State.

(48,391 posts)We were warned. Edward Snowden, Chelsea Manning, Reality Winner. They all warned us. And we ignored the warning because the powers that be convinced us it was okay. We went right along with it.
Edward Snowden leaked thousands of classified documents detailing a massive and secret global surveillance system run by the U.S. government and its allies. PRISM allowed the NSA to access user data from the servers of major tech companies Microsoft, Google, Apple, and Facebook.
Mass phone record collection: a secret court order ordering Verizon to hand over the telephone metadata of millions of American customers to the NSA daily.
Surveillance exposed that the U.S. was spying on the phone calls of allied world leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Monitoring internet traffic, the NSA was harvesting contact lists and tracking internet traffic globally.
