Hegseths orders, which were sent earlier this week to senior generals and admirals worldwide, require anyone in a command position with the rank of one-star general or rear admiral and above, as well as their senior enlisted leaders, to be at Marine Corps University at Quantico, Virginia, on Tuesday.
(snip)
Warrior ethos across the services can have different meanings, but in general it refers to professional dedication to fighting and winning wars. It is a regular focus of Hegseth, a former National Guard infantry officer, who has also rhetorically championed a return to lethality.
Critics have argued that his policies thus far have often not seemed aligned with lethality core initiatives have included removing transgender service members, ordering new shaving standards military-wide, and rebranding the Defense Department as The Department of War, complete with new seals and signage marking the entrance to his offices at the Pentagon.

How can we expect the military to follow only lawful orders if the good people are purged and the rest are either autocrats or just afraid?

(1,946 posts)What this means is that people asked for a reason, and his office gave them something that could be a mandatory video.
What do they call it when a big incident happens, and everything halts while plane parts are checked, or people take a day off for training. A stand down?
This seems like that but on steroids (by which I mean excess testosterone!)...across branches...with no critical incident identified.

There's a responsibility and an awareness that goes along with successful "lethality", and Kegsbreath doesn't seem to understand much more than the fussin and fighting part.
It's obvious he thinks Sun Tzu and Eisenhower were wusses.

(1,534 posts)world wide and put the country in great danger. What better time for an adversary to stage an attack than while our forces are running on idle (while the boss is away their no. 2 is very seldom willing to make consequential decisions) with their commanders off being lectured by a drunkard.
Here is a historical tidbit. On June 6, 1944 almost all of the top German command staffs were away from the western front because they thought the weather was too bad for the Allies to stage an attack. Some were at conferences. Some were partying in Paris. Rommel was in Germany celebrating his wife's birthday. The fact that Rommel was absent was especially disastrous for the Germans. If he had been in Normandy in the early hours when the first paratroopers arrived he would have put the entire coast on alert. And even more importantly, when the first landing forces arrived, he was the one general officer that would have ignored Hitler's standing orders that armored forces could only be deployed on his orders. Rommel would have immediately ordered all of the available Panzer forces and SS formations to Normandy while Hitler slept in his drugged stupor. Rommel's bold move would have stood a good chance of driving the Allies back into the sea. The Germans would have been the victor on the Longest Day. History would have unfolded in a completely different way. The Russian's westward march would have stopped at the English Channel.
Trump and his idiots are putting all of us in profound danger.

(641 posts)pete is small minded, mentally stunted, and is not truly a military "man".
However, like so many of the incompetent appointees in this farce of an administration, he seeks to hide his inadequacies by "appearing" to be decisive, in charge, and self-assured.
He probably is clapping his hands in glee thinking "Look how they jump when I speak! Look at them shrugging off the inconvenience! And all for me! Look! I'm a big man!"
Still, we cannot forget Stalin's purges, Mao's indoctrination, or the Katyn Forest.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered hundreds of the U.S. militarys generals and admirals to gather on short notice and without a stated reason at a Marine Corps base in Virginia next week, sowing confusion and alarm after the Trump administrations firing of numerous senior leaders this year. The highly unusual directive was sent to virtually all of the militarys top commanders worldwide, according to more than a dozen people familiar with the matter.
According to the Posts report, which has not been independently verified by MSNBC, the beleaguered Pentagon chief and former Fox News host issued the directive earlier this week and no one outside of Hegseths office seems to know why......
Around the same time, JD Vance added, Its actually not unusual at all.
Trump: Isn't it nice that people are coming from all over the world to be with us?

Vance: It's actually not unusual at all, and I think it's odd that you guys have made it into such a big story
Trump: Is it a big story? Isn't it a good story?
......The point about security concerns is of particular interest, since its an open question whether foreign adversaries or non-state actors might try to exploit the fact that every U.S. general and admiral on the planet is suddenly leaving their posts at the same time.
It will make the commands just diminished if something pops up, one defense official told the Post.
The president nevertheless asked reporters, Isnt it nice that people are coming from all over the world to be with us? But that made it sound as if U.S. generals and admirals are tourists, eager for a trip to the nations capital because they want to hang out with Trump.
Reality appears to tell a very different kind of story.
