Assume for the sake of argument that Comey did, in fact and intentionally, authorize McCabe to leak information as Cruz claimed he did and lied about it in October of 2017 with the intent to mislead Congress. On that set of postulated facts, what was the effect of Comey's saying, in late September 2020, that he affirmed what he said in October 2017? There is nothing new, the lies were already told. How does Comey's response constitute new offense(s) with a new Statute of Limitation?

Can the FBI just call folks in they questioned in the past who they think lied to them and ask the same questions again to extend the Statute of Limitation every five years until they die?
