Binyamin Netanyahu was on his way to speak at the UN general assembly where he has promised to “tell our truth” in what is expected to be a controversial speech. He is known for having used props and theatrics there in the past.

Netanyahu’s state aircraft, Wing of Zion, avoided Spanish and French airspace, according to the aviation website Flight Tracker.

The Times of Israel suggested that the longer journey was taken to avoid countries that are signatories to the International Criminal Court (ICC), which has issued a warrant for Netanyahu’s arrest, alongside the former defence minister Yoav Gallant, for alleged war crimes.

The British government has indicated that Netanyahu would face arrest if he travelled to the UK, while France has said the prime minister may have immunity as Israel is not an ICC member state.
