"US to Impose Tariffs Targeting Heavy Trucks, Kitchen Cabinets"
"President Donald Trump announced new industry-specific tariffs targeting heavy trucks, kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities, as well as upholstered furniture, expanding a trade agenda aimed at bolstering domestic industries by hiking import taxes.
Trump announced that he plans to impose a 25% tariff on heavy trucks starting Oct. 1, in a post Thursday on Truth Social.
In order to protect our Great Heavy Truck Manufacturers from unfair outside competition, I will be imposing, as of October 1st, 2025, a 25% Tariff on all Heavy (Big!) Trucks made in other parts of the World, Trump wrote.
He also announced a a 50% tariff on kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities, as well as a 30% tariff on upholstered furniture, both due to begin on Oct. 1 as well."

(52,682 posts)That's because heavy trucks are not exported to the United States - in the world market cab-over-engine trucks are the kind everyone uses, but in North America "conventional" trucks, which put the cab behind the engine, are used. Three of the biggest manufacturers of heavy trucks in the world are Daimler, Volvo and Volkswagen. In order to enter the North American market, Daimler bought Freightliner and Western Star, Volvo bought WhiteGMC and Mack, and Volkswagen bought Navistar, the company that makes Internationals. They didn't even bother trying to invent a truck American drivers would like.
Where are these trucks made?
Freightliner and Western Star are both made in Portland, OR.
Volvo is made in Dublin, VA.
Mack is made in Macungie, PA.
International is made in San Antonio, TX.
So...is he going to declare Macungie a foreign nation and tariff Macks?
