BBC Reporter Calls BS on Trumps Demand for Nobel Prize in Scathing Fact-Check

BBC Verify U.S. Correspondent Nick Beake called BS on President Donald Trumps demand for a Nobel Prize as he performed a scathing fact-check on Trumps United Nations speech.
President Trump spoke for nearly an hour to the United Nations General Assembly Tuesday in an address that was beset by technical issues and replete with Trumps characteristic touches including his frequent lobbying for a Nobel Peace Prize.
On Tuesdays edition of BBC News at Six, Beake and anchor Sophie Raworth knocked down a raft of Trump claims, including an extra-emphatic rebuttal to the Nobel rant:
SOPHIE RAWORTH: Lets start with London wants to go to Sharia law.
NICK BEAKE, BBC VERIFY: Yeah, thats right Sophie, this was the startling claim made by President Trump today, part of his message that immigration is destroying European countries, including the UK.

Per the committee, you don't get to know the list of nominees until 50 years AFTER the prize is awarded.
Second, A lot of links don't work with the DU software.
In that case.
Copy the link.
Select a word to make "linkable"
Click on the chain-link above the text box.
Paste the link into the little text area that pops up.
Wikipedia, in particular, has some bizarro links that flop here.
As for images, that's a textbook full of workarounds.
Some other time.
Happy DU'ing

(104,833 posts)The DU software can't cope with those directly in link URLs, and Wikipedia uses them for disambiguation.
So the way to fix it is to use " %28 " for " ( ", and " %29 " for " ) ". These mean the ASCII codes for the symbols (in hexadecimal).
So
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Smith_(Labour_Party_leader)
doesn't work.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Smith_%28Labour_Party_leader%29
does.

(11,270 posts)It will never carry the meaning and symbolism that it has today. The Nobel Committee will do a great disservice to the Prize and to the Committee itself if it makes this ultimate mistake in 15 days. It will never be respected again.
