Tourism is no longer booming in Las Vegas and casino workers are paying the price.
With visitor numbers sliding, many employees are going weeks without a single scheduled shift, even though they havent been officially laid off.
Tourists spent $55.1 billion in Las Vegas last year, according to the citys Convention and Visitors Authority, with 41.7 million people flocking to the Strip [1]. But the lights are starting to go out. July visitation fell 12% compared with a year earlier the seventh straight month of decline and that slowdown is hitting the people who rely on steady tourist traffic to cover rent, groceries and bills.
For Caesars employee Sonya Owens, that reality has been brutal. She told KTNV Las Vegas that she hasnt been called in for a shift in two months, despite being on the schedule as on call.

If people are unsure of their finances, vacations are the first thing to go. Add the fact that, thanks to the slobfather, Canada is avoiding this country like the plague.

(251 posts)On this "on-call" status, are these workers allowed to claim unemployment benefits?
If they aren't, how can anyone expect them to live?

(7,182 posts)Ridiculous pricing for parking, buffets that no longer offer value, etc. I interviewed with one company awhile back and stated, if they are going to charge for parking, make it a redeemable voucher that can be used on the tables or slots. I don't gamble, my wife on the other hand... She's going to use that and then some. You shouldn't be charging me when I'm going to Hell's Kitchen or seeing an over priced show.
