NJ-GOV: Environmental group endorses Sherrill

A leading environmental group endorsed Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) for governor on Wednesday, according to an announcement.

The NRDC Action Fund, the political arm of the Natural Resources Defense Council, said Sherrill is the better candidate to make communities flood-resistant, address pollution, and lower utility costs in the state. The fund said Sherrill will hold regional grid operator PJM Interconnection responsible for mismanagement (a claim PJM has disputed), and protect the state’s open spaces.

“Mikie Sherrill will tackle rising electric bills for New Jersey families by rapidly expanding cleaner, cheaper energy sources and creating the good-paying jobs that come with them,” said Manish Bapna, the president and CEO of the NRDC Action Fund. “She will fight to clean up polluted land, water, and air across the Garden State. We’re proud to stand with Mikie Sherrill, who has shown she can work across the aisle to get things done.”

Sherrill faces Republican Jack Ciattarelli in the race to succeed Democratic term-limited Gov. Phil Murphy. Mail-in voting has already begun.
