MI-SEN, MI-AG: GOP candidate posts fake AI video of U.S. Senate hopeful Abdul El-Sayed

A Republican candidate for statewide office posted a fake video on social media of a U.S. Senate hopeful over the weekend, purporting to show Democrat Abdul El-Sayed setting fire to a chair in the ornate lobby of the Guardian Building in downtown Detroit.

Kevin Kijewski, a Birmingham attorney running for the GOP nomination for attorney general, later defended the post on social media, claiming that it was satire and "obvious fiction" and mocking a reporter who sought to confirm its authenticity.

Kijewski in his initial post criticized El-Sayed, claiming that the Senate candidate posts the "same false inflammatory rhetoric that radicalized" the man accused of assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Utah two weeks ago.

"Abdul sets fires and walks away, fanning division without taking any accountability," Kijewski wrote.
