Everybody all over the world is eligible too. Apparently a not insignificant number of humans are willing to throw themselves behind authoritarianism.

(324 posts)Just a few Republicans in the Senate and House could make an impact on this despotic trajectory, but who knows how bad it would have to get. Even then, it might be a little late. Like many Im trying to keep hope that their are some feasible Trexit scenarios.
RockRaven
(18,076 posts)which has progressively sifted out any Repugs in the House or Senate with the slightest modicum of a spine, or willingness to speak or act independently and contrariwise to Trump/MAGA. There is a selection pressure, acting at each election cycle, for fealty to The Dotard. The House and Senate Repugs don't even want to have the power to check him, never mind a thought about using such a power.

(324 posts)I was basically agreeing with you, but holding out hope that something positive will happen. I also agree with your analysis of the current situation. I dont know why youd assume I fail to understand of the MAGA movements effect on the Republican Party. Im pessimistic, but 4 senators and 5 or so reps crossing the isle even on singular issues might stop the momentum. At some point, Trumps policies are going to cause undeniably visible and widespread discomfort to the Republican base. Maybe, just maybe, then some Rs will feel the pressure to do something to check some executive overreach.

(37,413 posts)Assuming by "MSM" you mean newspapers, they're beholden to Journalistic standards of objective reporting. Opinions are for the editorial page, or in the NYT's case, "News Analysis". The opinions there are often scathing, particularly if you can read between the lines.
But you probably mean CNN or daytime MSNBC.
The "MSM" couldn't save us if they wanted to: not enough people are watching/listening/reading.

(2,652 posts)They need to deal gently with him, so as not to infuriate the madman, yet they know that appeasement is the wrong way to go, and they want to maintain good will with Americans in general. Must be like walking on eggshells when dealing with him.
Wonder if theyre planning behind the scenes to establish an alternative to NATO, sort of a NATO minus a couple countries (Hungary and us).

They demand that the world fits their narcissistic narratives, despite evidence to the contrary. If they're also religious, they tend to be evangelicals who treat God like an obedient servant of their worldly wants, based on a currency of prayers and other rituals. Since they have dominion over God, in their minds, it's easy for them to assume dominion over everyone and everything.
