Trump gives Democrats the talking point they wanted on the budget

Sen. Schumer says Trump ‘is running away from the negotiating table’ after Trump cancels meeting

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer is keeping the door open to talks with President Trump after Trump canceled a meeting with Democratic leaders that was scheduled for later in the week.

In a long post on his social media site Tuesday, Trump said the Democrats’ demands on health care in exchange for their votes to keep the government open next week were “unserious” and “ridiculous.” Trump said “no meeting could possibly be productive.”

In a post on X directed to Trump, Schumer said Democrats will sit down and discuss health care “when you’re finished ranting.”

In a separate statement, Schumer said Trump “is running away from the negotiating table before he even gets there” and that he would “rather throw a tantrum than do his job.“

Happy New Year, Mr. President.

When you’re finished ranting, we can sit down and discuss health care.

With Trump, the American people’s costs are going up, his tariffs, their electric bills, the decimation of health care.

The American people want change, but the Republican bill is the status quo.

And Trump is ready to shut down the government over it.

...and to be clear, Schumer isn't negotiating here, he's making certain Americans understand where the dispute is, over the health care cuts; and still intending to vote against cloture knowing full well that republicans intend to cause a shutdown no matter what.

He's advocating for our health care and other priorities for Americans out in the open, and demanding republicans remove the devastating cuts from their budget.

Trump could have just invited them over, but he's so craven and shitty that he can't even put aside his megalomania and delusions of grandeur to play the politics in his favor.

...Dem's aren't negotiating.

This is a political stance by the minority party, making demands of the majority, exposing the lie that Democrats are intransigent, and calling trump's bluff to the point where the buffoon scuttles his own talking points on the shutdown.

This isn't negotiation. It's Democrats already committed to voting against cloture demanding changes in the budget republicans intend to ram through.

It makes no sense to portray Democrats as negotiating anything other than to point out that they are willing to sit down and press their demands with republicans or the WH, both of whom have clearly said they're locking Democrats out of the process and can do it on their own.

If you listen to either Schumer or Jeffries, you can clearly see that they are making DEMANDS for changes in the budget bill related to the expiration of the ACA tax credits and other priorities, knowing full well that republicans only control the process up and until they need to move their partisan bill forward in the Senate (or at least under the present Senate cloture/filibuster rules).

And the American voters blamed Biden for not doing enough about immigration. I hope enough people wake up
