(12,174 posts)The actual shot was not that great
the bullet ricocheted off the bullet proof vest Kirk was wearing up into his neck.
You can see it on the closeup video of the shooting
.its at the Internet Archive for those interested.
I will not post the link
you must decide on your own if you want to see.
Ive watched it many times. You can see it clearly
if Kirk wasnt wearing a vest, he might not have been killed, the bullet MAY have only hit his clavicle area.

(341 posts)Not really, because anyone who is a hunter, or lets say a good hunter democrat, republican, or independent most likely can do that too.
I would not include republican politics in the statement, but I would add most likely needed some psychiatric care and other statements to read
Is anyone else scared by how a young man, raised in gun culture and likely needing psychiatric care was able to make a kill shot at 200 yards unnoticed by security.
Growing up in a hunting, and outdoor sports family, I can see both sides. It is scary to some, but we need to have faith that we..(democrats) will change this culture. I am seeing special election wins and hearing some positive comments
. When our childrens children look back at this time in our country, they WILL see how the democrats, AGAIN saved our country, and made it better for them

It now appears to be an added cost of American gun culture.

(10,765 posts)Guns are quite precise - particularly with a scope.
200 yards is only 14% of the maximum distance a decent hunting rifle can kill at.
Head and upper torso are fair sized targets compared to a bullseye.
Load, aim, and pull the trigger are not that physically hard to do nor mentally very hard to figure out..
It is the emotional side or the mental portion making that decision to use the gun to kill that is troubling.
From the stats, attitudes or the gun culture within Republicans (someone can probably express this better) seems to make is easier for individuals on the edge go over the edge. The problem has been around for all of my 70 years.

(149,816 posts)Deer hunters in the western states often shoot mule deer at 200-300 yards. It's not unusual. A scoped rifle of good quality will make that shot again and again.
I've done it, and more than once. The first time, I was just 16 years old. I credit that practice as the reason I got an expert marksman ribbon in the USAF while in Basic Training.

(1,492 posts)I grew up in a hunting family. By the time I was a teenager, I could easily hit the bullseye from 150 yards. I didn't have the heart to shoot any animal other than a rattle snake, and that was only to protect the dog. I still feel bad about that.
