Walmart Wins Over More Shoppers as Tariffs Push Prices Higher

Walmart is showing why it is such a formidable force in retail, posting rapid sales growth and raising its outlook at a time when shoppers are being squeezed by higher prices.

Some shoppers are pulling back on spending because of tariff-driven price increases, but Walmart is absorbing enough of the cost to keep its price hikes lower than the national average, the company said.

....

Of the products Walmart sells in the U.S., about a third come from overseas. Because of tariffs, the company is raising prices on about 10% of the goods it imports, absorbing the rest of the elevated cost, Walmart Chief Financial Officer John David Rainey said in an interview.

2. Walmart winning means someone else is losing. Concentrating business in just a few is not winning in the long run

Increasingly our choices and options erode to less and less players-- be that retail, airlines, tech companies, etc. Long term that is not good for controlling inflation and consumers abilities to have choices. Not to mention the economic and political power these mega-businesses can wield all too often for ill.

I stopped sometime in the '90s when a bit of price comparison showed that WallyWorld was almost never the cheapest place.

Plus, if I want to donate to Republicans I'll give directly to them.
