Donald Trump has asked for a review of Smithsonian exhibitions and artifacts to eliminate items that remind us how bad slavery was. Donald Trump is a racist.
Hes also a fascist.
These are, clearly, very strong words, and its important to be careful with language, because if you use it too loosely, it loses its meaning. But after decades of evidence the dog whistles, the calls for innocent black men to be executed, the bizarre fixation on the Confederacy, his alliance with known Nazis and White Christian Nationalists saying these things, that Donald Trump is a fascist, that he is a racist, should be the least controversial thing to say about him.
Remember the knots the mainstream media tied themselves into back in 16 and 17 over whether or not to call him a liar? He lies. Hes a liar.
For seven months, hes rounded up brown people for deportation, imprisonment, or total disappearance. Hes attempting to convince his base that slavery wasnt so bad, after all. Some in his orbit are echoing this sentiment, going so far as to claim we shouldnt actually blame white people for slavery.
He doesnt like Black or brown people. Nearly every action is motivated by that dislike. Every breath he takes is flush with a fear and hatred of people who are not white.
What would you call that?
And now hes trying to cleanse our historical institutions. Hes creating a police force to target all of us, but black and brown people particularly. He ignores courts. He is rigging elections. Hes plastered the White House (and the internet) with images of himself.
What would you call that?
Donald Trump is a fascist, and hes a racist.
Saying it wont make it go away. But we cant hide from it anymore, either.

(4,959 posts)Its just that it doesnt matter anymore. No shame. No nothing except reveling in it. Like its a strength instead of a malignant character trait.

(4,001 posts)Keep saying it to your friends and neighbors... he's a racist, he's a fascist, he's a con man ... over and over. Bring the receipts when they ask why you say that and they will stop challenging you because they have no valid response.

It doesn't mean anything specific to people now. They're numb to it.

(499 posts)The Smithsonian has something like 200 exhibits. Two of them are about slavery. Trump is really stretching to find distractions from Epstein especially since a Federal judge revealed that the Government has hundreds of files of information they could release which they have been hiding.

(23,810 posts)Weve been saying that since he came down the escalator. And more of us who are older knew it because of Central Park 5. And it seems all New Yorkers have known it for many, many decades.
Glad to hear reformed (?) Republicans are catching on and saying it out loud though.

(4,001 posts)I'm always remembering how they supported the obvious racists in their party over the years and how they excused and welcomed their problematic supporters too. Then I think how a convert can be the most enthusiastic voice. They have 'seen the light' and feel betrayed by their own. Maybe they will revert to type later on, but for now I welcome their support, because we need all the help we can get to ditch the crazies.

(236 posts)Of Course you know that's 90% of his appeal!
I know so many who are thrilled to their bones about it!
They try to say "I'm for Trump because of the economy(they might say fiscal policy if they're trying to make you think they're open minded). I don't want to pay higher taxes, etc."
But the bottom line in most is the Racism.
It's why they support him.
