Mockler: Target turned on one of their huge consumer bases. And it feels like conservatives spent a decade saying go woke, go broke. Once the wokeness was removed. Now Target is immediately going broke.

(495 posts)My CVS Pharmacy is in Target near my house. I have to go there for meds because the nearest one is about 10 miles away. I just walk in. Pick up my meds and leave. Do not buy anything else there. Have notice the foot traffic is noticeably lighter since they ended DEI.
Deleted the app off my computer and phone. Bye bye hate purveyors with no spine.

(4,281 posts)near me. I haven't been in a Target store in more than 20 years. This is going to be right next to a Whole Foods market - very convenient for me, but I don't do well in large stores like that - I get dizzy and disoriented. I think they're going for a different market here. We'll see.

(8,187 posts)But, we also have to consider the impact of tariff's on their declining business, and also the attack on immigrants by the Trump administration.
Where do immigrants shop? Big box stores, and that's where ICE-holes come after them.
So, they're avoiding these stores.

(29,329 posts)I shop there occasionally and as far as my own Target is concerned, the workforce is very diverse (in fact, they even have a deaf employee outfitted with a special device for people to ask for help). But I had already scaled back because of their merchandise. Their clothing is poorly made and ugly. Their household wares seem designed for dorm rooms. They've stopped carrying many name brands, and they bring out and take down holiday stuff way too soon.

(10,001 posts)There are still Target stores in Austin
, Texas and I confess to shopping there on occasion.
What Cornell and other (overpaid) suits failed to note when they caved into MAGA/Trump demands to end DEI and other programs was that they were slapping a lot of their customer base in the face.
The Target stores in Austin (and also Dallas) are located in racially mixed parts of town. (The same could probably be extrapolated for San Antonio). A good chunk of their customer base is either Latino (primarily Mexican American) or Afro-American. Thats close to half or more. And Cornell chose to knuckle under to clueless wing-nuts who dont know his companys customer base?
The right-wing trolls and theorists may have polemics and bullying down to a fine art, but they didnt know (or didnt care) what following their demands would do to Targets bottom line. Target stores, their staffs, and their managers are finding out what the fancy suits didnt bother to learn.
I feel for Targets lower ranked staff. I dont have sympathy for thedeciders who bought into MAGA bunkum and are finding out the hard way.
