Paul Krugman states that 5% of the work force is done by undocumented workers and their work is concentrated in industries and businesses that will be crippled because of the deportations.
Krugman goes on to say that in the future these deportations will increase inflation even worse than tariffs.

(30,511 posts)Native born Americans have been deported. Native born Americans have been arrested and beaten and jailed. Of course not the white ones though. If Krugman means white Americans, he should say so.

(20,125 posts)When my late husband and I traveled to California via Minnesota, we stopped in many areas that were considered primarily Republican areas, Right to Work States like South Dakota, Wyoming, and Utah. We did not see many people from others ethnic backgrounds working, it was mostly Caucasians working whatever job that would pay the bills. We tipped our waiter/waitress at lest 20% in cash.
Same went for Housekeeping staff at the Air Force bases we stayed at for any length of time. They were mostly Latino or African-American. Back in 1990 to 1993, I was a Housekeeping Supervisor at a nice Motel across the street from St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. I started seeing tips guests would leave for me when they checked out. That went into a fund to help pay bills soon after my husband had left IBM and was doing odd jobs and driving Limousine to make ends meet. So when (we) stay(ed) at hotels, resorts, at bases, I tipped handsomely because housekeeping rooms is hard work.
