The most dangerous thing Trump could do ... and few are talking about it.

GOP are working on a bill to change the Census to "citizens only" and order an immediate census instead of 2030.

Consequences would be grave... and immense.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-backs-renewed-push-immediately-100000541.html

Donald Trump and his allies have the U.S. census in their sights as they continue to pursue their anti-democratic visions for the country.

Touring a controversial new immigrant detention center in Florida on Tuesday, Donald Trump excitedly backed a proposal from far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., that would drastically alter the U.S. electoral map if implemented. Greene said Monday that her proposal, which she said she will introduce in the House, would require the Census Bureau to “immediately” conduct a new census — even though the census takes place every 10 years, with the next one set for 2030.

“In conducting the new census of the U.S. population, it shall require questions determining the citizenship of each individual, and count US citizens only," Greene wrote in a post on X. "Upon completion of the census, the bill will direct states to immediately begin a redistricting of all U.S. House seats process using only the population of United States citizens."

Keep talking about Epstein while the conman picks Democracy's pocket.

2. It probably won't matter that it's unconstitutional.

The census definition is even less vague than the birthright citizenship amendment, if that's possible. But I guess we needn't worry. Some "democratic leader" somewhere will pen a strongly-worded letter while any challenge will get denied on the notorious "shadow docket."

... the 500,000 enumerators hired to randomly haul non-white citizens to detention for a week or two before they say "whoopsie" and release them. That way they ensure a high percentage of non-white citizens, like their undocumented neighbors, are too terrorized to answer their door.

Again ?

Article 1 section 2
Article I, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution mandates that an apportionment of representatives among the states must be carried out every 10 years

Plus, I’m not sure it would hurt us. I would think it would hurt some red states too, like Texas and Florida. I guess someone will do a quick study.

1) If they change to counting citizens only California and other states might lose a handful of seats and or electoral votes

2) Estimates for the 2030 census already show the GOP picking up 10+ electoral votes and seats

7. The House passed such a bill last year and it went nowhere in the Senate. The same result would happen now.

There's no way it would pass. And it of course is blatantly unconstitutional.

But I'm not sure how it would "drastically" alter the electoral map

The six states with the largest unauthorized immigrant populations in 2022 were:

California (1.8 million)
Texas (1.6 million)
Florida (1.2 million)
New York (650,000)
New Jersey (475,000)
Illinois (400,000)

Check out this analysis from Pew of the impact it would have had if applied to the 2020 Census. Doesn't look like a drastic change in apportionment to me.

If Trump ordered the Census for 2026... we'd be down 10+ electoral votes.

9. The article explicitly says "that would drastically alter the U.S. electoral map if implemented."

That statement is blatantly false as shown by the Pew analysis I posted. Shifting apportionment based on the Census is going to happen anyway and this bill which is supposedly so "dangerous" doesn't change that. But as was pointed out, the bill is blatantly unconstitutional, it has no chance of passing the Senate and Trump can not and will not unilaterally change the Census date.

First of all, if that is your concern ,then why did you post the article? The article was about legislation to remove non-citizens from Census counts. The idea of an "immediate" Census was PART OF THAT LEGISLATION! If Trump thought he could call a Census any time he wanted, he would never have bothered with the legislation to begin with. In case you haven't noticed, the Republicans don't do legislation any more. They don't bother with legislation for something Trump thinks he can do by Executive Order.

Most importantly, a Census can't just happen happen without any planning. In fact, it takes over 10 years to do all the work necessary to be able to conduct the Census. Work on the 2030 Census began in 2019. It would literally be impossible to conduct a Census in 2026 - there is no infrastructure in place to do it.

Some people like the person who wrote that article seem determined to freak out over every single insane idea some idiot Republican comes up with - no matter how unserious it is - and ignore that it is obvious there is no chance whatsoever of it happening. I swear, if a Republican announced plans to to block out the sun (like Mr. Burns in the Simpsons), those people would take it seriously and write their panic articles about how big a threat this was.
