When I was listening to Rachel Maddow's Ultra podcast series, I learned about Warner Brothers' anti-Nazi activist history. (It may have been in Prequel, the book version -- I forget.) Part of the story she tells there was the basis for the 1939 film "Confessions of a Nazi Spy," about Jews going undercover in southern California to expose a Nazi spy ring. (True story.) Knowing (and believing) what was already going on for Jews in Germany, WB refused to abide by the restrictions on anti-Hitler content in the film code of the times.
