Donald Trump Got $17 Million Insurance Payout for Damage Few Recall
https://fortune.com/2016/10/24/donald-trump-hurricane-payout-mar-a-lago/
Donald Trump said he received a $17 million insurance payment in 2005 for hurricane damage to Mar-a-Lago, his private club in Palm Beach, but The Associated Press found little evidence of such large-scale damage.
Two years after a series of storms, the real estate tycoon said he didnt know how much had been spent on repairs but acknowledged he pocketed some of the money. Trump transferred funds into his personal accounts, saying that under the terms of his policy, you didnt have to reinvest it.
In a deposition in an unrelated civil lawsuit, Trump said he got the cash from a very good insurance policy and cited ongoing work to the historic home.

(42,551 posts)In 2005 for Katrina. We were lucky the damage was slight. Insurance company asked for one estimate, payed on the spot. Not a Penney to my pocket. The insurance company, repair service and I were all above board and honest and happy with our business transition. My wife and I were and are happy. Trump hasnt been happy a day in his life.

Who knows?
Maybe media CEO's, law firm partners, and leaders of other industries will figure out that the ONLY Way Out IS NOT bending the knee, it's investing some of the money they've raked in in obscene compensation packages over the years into mounting Well-Funded primary challenges by Pro-Impeachment Republicans, and doing everything in their power to make sure every toss-up or "lean" R or D seat is won by a Pro-Impeachment candidate in the general election.
Frankly, I think even the serious threat of impeachment and removal in 2027 could keep a lot of small businesses hanging in there that are otherwise close to being wiped out by one of the criminal impoundments of monies appropriated by congress.
Otherwise, this chaos WILL seriously tank the economy and wipe out the pots of gold they are hoarding, not to mention, the number who will die because they can't afford health insurance, the trans people who will die as marketplace companies take advantage of MAGA Murder Budget changes that allow them to stop covering gender affirming hormone treatment (it is literally deadly to live without a dominant sex hormone), the women who will die because they are denied life-saving D&C's and other "banned" treatment when a pregnancy goes wrong, the women who will die because they have no resources and are so desperate to end a pregnancy they do crazy things, and on and on and on.

(11,232 posts)And try to figure out what little bits I can do to make it a reality.
I'm in blue, blue Seattle, WA and my current efforts are focused on pestering Rep. Pramila Jayapal and Senators Cantwell and Murray to call the budget what it is, the MAGA Murder Budget. and follow other guidance from Democracy Labs and the Freedom Over Fascism Toolkit.
Herding Democrats is harder than herding cats, but if we can't get more of our leaders and electeds on the same page, it's hard to see how we get out of this. Language is crucial. If we are to save the nation, we need to frame things more effectively, say FEWER things, and say the SAME things over, and over, and over and over until we are sick of hearing ourselves, and then say those things some more.
If you haven't heard of Anat Shenker-Osorio, one the creators of the Freedom Over Fascism Toolkit, a good introduction is Joe Trippi's interview with her back on April 18. You'll find it here on Apple podcasts, or whereover you get your podcasts: That Trippi Show: "If you want to touch a nerve, you have to touch a nerve" with Anat Shenker-Osorio."
