Minutes after King Charles torched Trumpism in Parliament...
PM Mark Carney stood up and detonated decades of military dependence on America. 💣
His declaration?
Canada is out. Out of NORADs shadow. Out of Washingtons grip. Read more here:

(5,602 posts)repairing these alliances. Damn trump and the stupid magas. Since they didn't like the way the Constitution set out for our government to run and despised democracy, we should have loaded ALL of them up (along with the tech bros) and shipped them off to either Russia or Hungary. That's my opinion and I'm not moving from it (gryn).

But we know that they don't. And the rest of the world is seeing this now as well. The only ones still clueless are the MAGAts themselves.

(70,218 posts)The US will not have their backs.
Sensitive information cannot be shared, it will be sold to enemies.
The US will threaten to invade or tariff them. Or any number of threats.
Visitors to this country could be jailed.
Leaders who visit the US will be humiliated or threatened in the Oval Office.
Bribes will be demanded.
The American voter, congress, and the judiciary will endorse it all or look the other way.
Or have no power at all.
Let's say one of your best long term friends did this to you.
Would you ever trust that friend again?

(33,940 posts)much better at explaining what exactly was said. I especially liked this part
The Carney Doctrine is clear:
"We dont need a damn thing from the United States. Were doing this with better partners, on better terms, and for the right reasons."

(5,602 posts)like they were subjects in his businesses. That rarely works well in business, let alone in diplomatic circles! People and countries don't like to be dissed by a raging demented asshole. They seem to take umbrage at that... gee... I wonder why?! Could it be they're decent, civil people who have no desire to mingle with barbarians?!

(12,468 posts)Europe for more defence partnerships and has already partnered with Australia on some. Canada is still committed to NORAD and has not made any statements to the contrary. We will certainly go with what works best but I would take this guys declarations with a grain of salt and fact check his statements. There was no huge announcement, Carney has been saying this since he ran for leadership.

(16,543 posts)'By Canada Day we'd like to see something concrete there,' PM tells Power & Politics
Murray Brewster · CBC News · Posted: May 27, 2025 4:43 PM EDT | Last Updated: May 27
Prime Minister Mark Carney signalled he hopes Canada will be able to sign on to a major European defence rearmament plan by July 1, a step toward reducing the country's dependency on the United States for weapons and munitions.
He made the remarks on CBC's Power & Politics following the speech from the throne, which committed his government to joining ReArm Europe.
The speech did not set out a timeline, but Carney said he wants to move aggressively.
"Seventy-five cents of every dollar of capital spending for defence goes to the United States. That's not smart," Carney told host David Cochrane.

(5,602 posts)He's messing with their bread and butter now! First, take away their contractors and then take away their business. I've seen more than a few defense companies go out of business here in LV over the last few years. I expect to see more of it, too.

(16,543 posts)The defense industry in this country is influential, to put it mildly, and I can't imagine they're pleased with all the foreign countries rethinking who they want to buy their weapons from.

History will judge Trump as not only the worst President ever, but will unmask him as a truly despicable human being.
This indictment of Trump will show him to be, not just greedy and incompetent, but also totally lacking in moral fiber.

(3,480 posts)Carney has also put the U.S. F-35 fighter jet deal under review. Instead, hes eyeing Swedish Saab Gripen jets and get this: theyd be built in Canada. Thats right. Jobs, tech, pride, and air superiority without a single U.S. asterisk.
If Canada drops US fighters for Swedish ones, and builds them in Canada, this will represent a major domino-fall for US military superiority.
