What are you willing to sacrifice? What am I?

This is what they fought for.

What are you willing to sacrifice?

What am I?

I'm working to connect with others in opposition, but how much time am I really doing something effective? What would be more effective?

I'm struggling in so many areas of my life. Is it just an excuse for doing less than I could?

IDK.

You bring to mind quotes I've offered to others when immobilizing hopelessness, fear, or doubt threaten:

"Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world." --Desmond Tutu

“It's the action, not the fruit of the action, that's important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in your power, may not be in your time, that there'll be any fruit. But that doesn't mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results come from your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no result.” --Mahatma Gandhi

And we try to keep each other’s spirits up. It’s not easy with this uncertainty and cruelty we see everyday but we’ve got to hang on to each other until we make it out of this madness. What’s hard for me to get over is this is all so unnecessary

It is far, far, too easy to slip into immobilizing cynicism and despair. I should know better, but I find myself falling victim even though I know our redemption as a nation is only possible if enough of us keep that demon at bay.

Just after the election, I posted the following bit of advice. It still applies. Once again, you are taking me back to basics I've somehow lost track of in the shock and awe of these last four months:

1. Mourn. That will take all kinds of forms. Lashing out in anger or despair included, but we can help support each other in ways that ultimately preserve hope and reject the cynicism that immobilizes. Which leads to #2

2. Take care of each other. Support each other and share ideas for staying sane and engaged over the coming months and years.

3, Take care of ourselves. Encourage each other to connect with things that nourish us -- personally. We need to rebuild our strength.

4. Keep an eye on developments. I think there are going to be some creative things emerging that promote citizens working together in ways to shape their communities, shape attitudes, and accomplish some pretty great things, both large and small. I highly recommend this book for inspiration.

Look at the Target boycott a bunch of people resisting, giving to a charity or supporting truth tellers.
Giving a smile to people who are being targeted, they are in pain and afraid of the gestapo. Maybe you have room and can foster an animal, many of them are being turned into shelters because their owners can no longer afford them. The resistance takes many forms sometimes just having an open heart and empathy for others is enough.
