(12,390 posts)only saw the photo of the guy standing up to the tank.........None of them know what happened after the picture was taken.
It was a whole sale, bloody massacre, by the Chinese Government with no cameras or video allowed. With all the protestors still in the square, the military closed off the entrance after sending in many military vehicles with machine gun turrets and shot everyone in the square.......The carnage was so horrific, that the square remained off limits to anyone and everyone, during the following months while the carnage, mutilated bodies, blood, and holes in the walls were repaired. Then it was reopened when there was no evidence of what the Chinese Military had done to those demonstrators.....

(33,940 posts)Why do you want people to be corralled in D.C with however many armed soldiers, tanks, and whatnot are there? It would make Lafayette Park look like a playground. Is that the kind of protest you're eager to see on your tv? Rather then millions of people across the country standing up where they are? WTF do you expect to see from D.C.

(7,047 posts)Instead we see people actively discouraging that. Trump would LOVE no protesters at his parade.
The cameras will be in DC, that is the protest signs need to be. Why anybody thinks another local protest will even make the news is a mystery to me.

(10,381 posts)tribute to Trump by "his" military (which he will do his best to make it appear to be) ought to focus on his many acts of blatant disrespect to our service members. He has bragged about our military winning WWII, so protesters need to point out how the the allied forces, of which the US was a part, fought to defeat fascists/Nazis like Trump himself & his supporters. Decry his assaults on our Constitution in that context. His many disparaging remarks & acts toward our military personnel must also be highlighted & denounced.
I think the DC protests need to be especially tightly planned, organized, and carried out. No one should be booing the troops, rather denouncing Pissolini's distorted, self-centered attitude toward them. The non-DC events should have a similar focus, but don't need to be quite so carefully designed & executed. Still, they're important. That's my very strong opinion, anyway.

(12,390 posts)that enables him to enact the "Insurrection Act" and ignore the Posse Comataus Act........AND declare Martial Law across the entire United States. Look at his phony use of declaring the Mexican Border a "Military Base" allowing him to sent 6,000 of U.S. Military down there to prevent a totally made up "Invasion"...........

(22,983 posts)There needs to be a massive turnout in DC. Jam the streets. Stop this parade from happening. This is fascism on display and an insult to our troops to use them as puppets in a political event to pay homage to drumpf.
This is an EASY event to protest. Hard to stop an innocent man from being shipped to el salvador when he's already there before you even know about it. but this? we all see it coming a mile away.
Please do everything you can to spread the word of these protests!
Blues Heron

(56,077 posts)It is NOT an easy event to protest.
Wisely, the organizers of the No Kings protest alliance can see the obvious and are warning people to not go to DC.
When you say "needs to be a massive turnout" that means YOU will be there, right? Or do you want others to get ground down in DC for you?

(11,834 posts)Look on the map. There are protests scheduled in the DC suburbs, but nothing within the borders of the District. Most DC folks are either staying home or planning to be elsewhere that day. Remember that DC is about 85% African-American. If anyone causes "trouble" there, FOTUS will use it as an excuse to declare martial law.

Based on historical reports, the KKK parade in Washington D.C. in 1925, involved a large number of Klansmen. Police estimated 30,000 to 35,000 in the procession, historical accounts put the number as high as 50,000 to 60,000. In addition to the marchers the New York Times reported at least 200,000 spectators.

(2,031 posts)Although they may not be organized and they may not be on the Mall. I would imagine that they will be part of the crowd lining Pennsylvania Avenue (or wherever the parade is scheduled to go). The military may be able to prevent signs along the route, but there have to be creative ways to make your feelings known.
The press will be covering the parade and the parade watchers along the route. That could be more effective than a crowd on the Mall that the press could ignore - or the military could target if Trump got pissed off at the distraction from his big, beautiful parade.

It's funny how none of the DU members wanting everybody else to go June 14 have said they will be protesting in DC June 14. And then you come along attempting to shame people for not going.
NJCher
(40,236 posts)obviously unfamiliar with how this protest movement works.
If you want to go to D.C., you go to D.C. I am not going to D.C. because I live in a major metropolitan area and I don't have to. I can drive in any direction for 15 miles and be at any of as many as 4-5 protests. That is what I have done and that is what I will do. I have been to four since they started a few months ago. How many have you been to?
In this protest environment there is absolutely no pressure on anyone to drive to D.C. If you were active in the movement you would know this.
Do you even know where to go online to find out where your nearest protest is?
Furthermore, the national nature of these protests are carried on the media. This is not a one-shot deal. Again, if you were familiar with it, you would know this. It does not matter if I go to D.C. All that matters is that I go.
However, I have done my share of D.C. protests. I organized 35 buses out of NYC for the Inauguration when bush stole the election. I put my credit cards on the line, hoping those buses would fill and they did. I was protesting on the streets of Newark when the republicans started this bullshit. Where were you?
I'm sure as hell not going to do this:
Bernardo de La Paz
(56,077 posts)My posts reveal that I am quite familiar with how protests work, including where I have have pointed to organizers and to successful protest movements. Also my OP on protests with 52 recommendations -- you were 39th to recommend it, probably you thought somebody else posted it.
But trying to shame people who won't go to DC June 14, telling them not to "live in fear", is what you have done here.
