WHAT FRESH HELL?

Does anyone else feel that spasm of existential dread every morning before you turn on the TV or make your first click on the internet in anticipation of the newest horror emanating from the White House? If it weren't so terrifying it would almost be funny.

I'm not for instant gratification . . . I enjoy ANTICIPATION.

After I pour my cup of coffee and let the dogs out, I turn on the computer. When I click on Democratic Underground, I'm always hopeful that the screen will be filled with flying bits of confetti, celebrating the printed obituary of the felon-in-chief. When it doesn't appear, I plan my daily conversations (e-mail and phone call) to my 2 Senators and Congressman, expressing my opinion (which I understand they totally ignore). Then I get on with my day, checking back occasionally to see if the confetti is flying.

(Note to administrators: please plan a way to let confetti fly over the content pages if REALLY good news occurs.)

Fri May 23, 2025, 01:17 PM

for a tweet and a Bluesky message I posted here back in February, with my thread title "I think we can all empathize with this..."

That thread

https://www.democraticunderground.com/100220017163

included the text:

Grady Booch
‪@gradybooch.bsky.social‬

I miss those lazy days when I could wake in the morning and check the news without trepidation.

Instead, upon rising, I now catch a whiff of some fetid, musky odor, gird my loins, then scream into the orange tinted void shouting “what fresh hell awaits us today?”

February 10, 2025 at 3:24 PM

But that old thread there no longer shows the Bluesky link

which I typed just above but apparently won't show at all on DU if it's a link for a deleted post...unless you break it:

https:// bsky . app/profile/grady booch.bsky.social/post/3lhu3dzri2c2t

But if you copy that into a browser address bar and get rid of the breaks, it just turns up a Bluesky "Post not found. The post may have been deleted." page.

It's apparently gone because Grady got rid of his original Bluesky profile and replaced it with @booch.com‬ - https://bsky.app/profile/booch.com - using Bluesky's method of verification via personal websites.

It's no longer on Twitter, either. Grady deletes a lot of tweets.

It is like living with a chronic and progressive serious disease that you know is going to kill you. You have been down so low for so Long deteriorating bit by bit each and every day that you can’t even begin to think about a better day. It just never comes.

60. I feel existential dread on some occasions, but not every single morning.
Fri May 23, 2025, 04:37 PM
May 23

I try to focus on the good things in my personal life, like my wonderful husband, my incredible daughter and future son in law, and my soft purring kitty, and on doing things I enjoy, like reading and learning new things. When I get absorbed a biography of a historical figure or a book about something I want to know more about or even a well written novel, or listening to a podcast on some fascinating topic, it's as if Schlump and his idiocy don't exist for that period of time, and I can eventually return to the awfulness of the real world feeling refreshed.

There's so much I still want to learn about, so many things I want to delve into further, that I will never run out of new avenues to explore, and I refuse to let the Orange Hellbeast take away the joy that gives me. So I concentrate on enjoying what I can as much I can, and put things I can't change out of my mind. The key for me is compartmentalizing; when I'm really absorbed in something, blocking everything else out comes pretty easy to me.

Of course, I can't spend ALL my time that way, but whatever time I can spend on things that give me joy helps to fortify me and give me strength to get through the awfulness. My advice, fwiw, is if there is anything that gives you joy, hold it close and treasure it. Even if it's just a small thing, that little bit of joy could be the difference between survival and succumbing to despair.

Same for the slices of print media I take in. As much as it is a planned propagandistic overwhelm, it is also an incredible dose of willfully ignorant and stupid. Whether it is the Orange Menace, the bimbo who gives blonds a bad name, one of his arrogantly insufferable stooges, a semi-official agent of darkness (Miller, Elmo, or Navarro), or a congressional GOP member or Senator, each brimming with complete nonsense or denial, the insult to my sense of reality is getting to be more than I can bear.

My gut feeling is that someone needs to do something forceful and abrupt to which ever one is in front of me. I don't like that feeling. I don't like who that makes me into. The anger I feel is real, as is the insult to my humanity and intelligence.
