DU Members Who Want To Keep DU Viable

Please consider giving what you can to this week's tip jar. Imagine what our day would be like without DU.

I have zero role in DU management.

I never used to look to see if SS was on time, now I do. The rich want us dead, they think that AI will take care of them in their fortified compounds.

I don't even have time each day for DU, but if I can, I do. Like today--I had to get up at 4:30 to run down here (Paris) in time to make my various appointments, will be tearing off back to the Gare du Nord in about half an hour to make my train back to Düsseldorf so that I can grab a light late dinner and then get up again at 5:00 in order to be in Utrecht (NL) by 9:00 tomorrow morning.

In the meantime, if I can steal the time, I will look in on DU (of course).

PS--last week, it was worse: I got up at 4 to make a 5:50 train from the D'Dorf airport down to Köln, because there was work being done on the tracks, so all trains leaving for Brussels and Paris left an hour early, so as to arrive on schedule after the detour. So, at 5:50, when no train--going anywhere--appeared, passengers started asking questions. Oh, someone tossed themself in front a train just north of here, so there will be no train service for a couple of hours while the cops clean the scene up. Of course, all available taxis were gone. So, I took the monorail over to the main terminal of the airport and asked who wanted to take me to Aachen, at the Germany/Belgian/Dutch border? One guy said he'd do it, and how much time did I have? I said just under 90 minutes. He said he'd try, but I'd have to pay what was on the meter. I said you got it.

As soon as he got out onto the Autobahn, he DID tear outta there, speed reaching at times 205 KPH (just over 120 MPH). I thought he was from Iran, which he confirmed. I told him I was from the USA, and then spoke my few words of Persian (i.e. Farsi), and all was cool. It cost me (correction--it cost the outfit I work for!) 305 Euros, or about $350, but he DID make it to Aachen in time, and I did catch the train to Sprout City, and then the connection on to Paris. I swear, there is never a dull moment.

That's not overly appealing, so I’ll just play “bop til you drop” instead, and hope that keeps me alive longer than would becoming a couch potato.

But it’s all here within a 3 KM radius. I need the multi-culti inspiration of the world around me. What good is it to live on a continent with 30 different cultures within a day’s journey if you don’t go out and mix with them?

To those who want to stop working, by all means they should. I neither want to nor have to, and am in a position where only the top guy can force me to. He is my age, and is the guy who recruited me 50 years ago (this August). He isn’t retiring, either.

Ever since Bush eked past Kerry, in '04, y'all DUers have been a haven of sanity, and after that unmentionable night in 11/2016, you've gotten mightier and mightier with the heavy guns of truth and knowledge.

For doing the same, and for the gentle reminder, for those who had been planning to but hadn’t yet got around to it in a busy week.

DU is such an amazing place, made up of amazing people. So glad that another member invited me to join this fantastic community.

Over 20 years and still going strong on a “pay as you can, when you can” basis. A place where even a dollar donation can make someone a star member for a year, with the bonus of feeling good knowing that you are contributing to keeping democracy alive.

Hopefully we can keep this at the top through Friday.

And the thought just occurred to me that if the “Tip bill” becomes tax law, then we should call all the fundraisers “tips”, lol.

Scrolling through this thread, I see several people I wish I could give Kudos to. It was a difficult decision to choose just one. Makes me wish Kudos were like hearts (based on donation amount) so I could give more than one!
