PBS receives $85 million. The military-themed birthday parade Trump is throwing himself will cost taxpayers $92 million. We’re told cutting news and kids programming to fund an authoritarian birthday bash somehow makes America great again.”

I've never understood why NPR was so dead set on keeping that $3 million (1% of their funding) cadoman 15 hrs ago #1

They have a bountiful number of supporters and listeners and the means to easily be 100% self funded.

All the government funding is good for is creating unfair and unwarranted grief on NPR staff from MAGATs. The cost of regulatory compliance alone would probably pay for the difference.

IMO this will backfire on the ember excrement.

It's a business arrangement that relies on a "foot in the door" approach. By establishing the business relationship, there's a hope to keep lines open for continued funding for specific projects, like making grants to other entities (which in this case could be member stations,) community engagement and such.

I'm sure there are more reasons than that but that's a basic description.

Locally 97.3 is the actual official emergency station. About 30% of their funding is from a CPB grant. It’s $30K. The hosts are volunteer. Every hour is different. But it’s the official radio station in the city of Richmond.

Right wing media has been HOT on not requiring cars to have AM. Many ads on it. Starting with Rush AM radio is a pillar of the right wing. This will kill a lot of tiny AM stations but it greatly benefits iheart and Audacy.
