CPB, PBS, and NPR respond to Donald Trump's new illegal executive order trying to defund public media

Last night — in the dead of night, as Washington State’s legislative Republican communications staff like to say in their propaganda pieces — Donald Trump signed an illegal executive order attempting to force the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to stop funding the Public Broadcasting Service and National Public Radio.

This morning, each of them responded with defiance, which is a great sign.

First, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting

WASHINGTON, D.C, (May 2, 2025) — Patricia Harrison, President and CEO of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), issued the following statement today regarding the President’s Executive Order on public media:

“CPB is not a federal executive agency subject to the President’s authority. Congress directly authorized and funded CPB to be a private nonprofit corporation wholly independent of the federal government.

Trump can't control private organizations with executive orders. He's crazy.

The orange pos is being as destructive as he possibly can. Wouldn't want to have non partisan media telling the truth about his constant lies.

The donors club, that is.

My $17/month isn't going to make a huge difference, but it will make a difference.

Thanks for helping!

Too bad about his reading comprehension. But his failure to fathom does not give him magic powers.

I've donated to PBS for years. I have them in my will. They have given me things that can never be taken away from me.

Things that a small-minded, ignorant, ugly, stinky, disgusting wannabe dictator will never understand.

I flick him off like a stink bug and spit in his general direction.

maybe now public media can free itself from political pressure... unless it becomes more reliant on megacorporate donors.
