When asked if she's running for President, AOC responded:
To me, this moment is not about campaigns or elections or about politics. Its about making sure people are protected, she said.
And weve got people that are getting locked up for exercising their First Amendment rights, were getting two-year-olds getting deported into cells in Honduras, were getting people about to get kicked off of Medicaid. That, to me, is the most important thing.
I don't understand why some seem to hate her so much.

(1,022 posts)- like Sanders, Hogg and other left of center liberals. The centrist Democrats feel threatened as much as the more right leaning Republicans, all of whom rely on big money for their campaigns. The people, any body not a multi-millionare or billionaire, are big money's sworn enemy because all we want is ALL their money and to leave them destitute - in their minds. So we must be held down and dependent on their "generosity" for our subsistence.

(43 posts)is that people are told to hate her, so they do. If you ask them why, they typically can't provide anything resembling logic.

(3,774 posts)"I don't like her", so I asked "why don't you like her", her answer was "wellll...I don't know", so I responded "if you don't know then you have no right to not like her.". After that we spoke longer about AOC, and it was satisfying to have her say "you are right, no reason for me to dislike her, if she is doing the right thing, which according to you she is, I will support her, and I will start paying attention to her more."

(4,013 posts)but within their culture (local family, church, close friends) they understand the subliminal message about her and don't intend to rock that boat. In their world ostracism for being out of line can be a painful experience.

(260 posts)AOC is articulate, smart, poised, knowledgeable. She is a threat and the hate machine is in full gear to delegitimize her in the only way they know how. Blast her with their hatred 24 hours of every day.

(17 posts)Folks that I have heard disparage her are people that literally have never heard her speak. Their opinions come from osmosis of whatever they hear friends & coworkers say. Their friends and coworkers that influence them are, like them, ignorant. Plus "my church". Plus "my newsfeed" (ie social media & corporate media headlines). They are never even exposed to facts & views that folks on this site would consider to be basic mainstream non-partisan information or beliefs.

Dems see that their most talented up and coming star is a woman of color and a Socialist. They're afraid she can't win a general election because of that, but she may get the nomination. Watch them try to keep her down even more than they did Bernie.
I'm not in the mood for trying to break a triple glass ceiling with all that is at stake, but if you look at identitiy politics, then all the other stuff (state, age, Progressive vs moderate...) you get just about nobody. Or you end up with the Billionaires. I don't know what the answer is, but I wish for a change the DNC would leave it up to the people. Beginning with Iowa, which has served us well.

There is a petty, mindless, mental aberration that manifests itself as a knee-jerk, inchoate resentment toward those who have, or can do, anything they don't have, or cannot do. I'm a professional artist, so, believe me, I know whereof I speak.
These people will covet the possessions or talents of others quite openly, often saying, in a joking tone, that they "hate" people who have these things or abilities, but they are not joking. They are not joking at all. They will criticize and demean such people with absolutely no basis in fact or reason. And if the object of their malice is young, beautiful, smart, articulate, kind, thoughtful and the worst possible offense female, well then, they go super nova. I have no respect, and no use for such people.
I fervently hope I live long enough to call Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez "Madame President". She is what this nation desperately needs.
