Buying grocery store gift cards. Two interesting transactions recently

So I have to buy gift cards at grocery stores for work. This is with a company card.

At Food Lion about 2 weeks ago the cashier was very adamant that I would have to use a card with a PIN. She said there’d been a lot of fraud on these. Frame of reference- this was in a poorer area/part of town.

This morning at a Kroger I needed to buy another one. At least middle class if not higher area. Per the screen when I paid the cashier needed to check my ID. I showed her the name on the card (Me) and showed her my driver’s license. I do this at Lowe’s to get a military service discount. She had to enter my drivers license number into the screen. In Virginia, as with other states I’m sure, that number is assigned by the DMV - it’s not your Social Security number

I guess fraud with these things are everywhere.
