"NEVER INTENDED ON THE MAIN SITE"-gate: Looks like Bezos DID plan to show tariffs, Trump called & yelled, Bezos groveled

Amazon released two statements after Leavitt’s grilling. The first claimed that only Amazon’s ultra-low-cost Amazon Haul platform was considering implementing the tariff information. Amazon Haul has been described as a “Temu copycat,” offering lower prices but longer shipping wait times.

A second statement from the business, released shortly after, stated outright that the tariff pricing disclaimer “was never approved and will not occur.”

CNN reported that a peeved Trump called Bezos after learning of Punchbowl’s report. Then, just after 1 p.m., Trump adviser Stephen Miller confirmed the call to Fox News and said that “things worked out exactly as they should.”

Or is Temu showing what Amazon intended to do on their own website?

I'm not a customer on Temu so I don't know too much about them, other than the owner is Chinese.

Do states collect sales tax on tariffs? If not, the retailers are cheating their customers and pocketing the money.

Even the placement (tariffs below sales tax) would suggest otherwise.

architect Shigeru Ban. The book and sketch total something like $1,800 (US dollars converted from Euros). According to the posting, shipping is "approximately" 500 Euros. I queried Alphabet's AI program whether it was reasonable to charge $500 in shipping costs to ship a 17 pound book to the United States and it told me in no uncertain terms that such a price is "not reasonable" and "not possible."

and took it.

It makes perfect sense that if your business plan is to sell things for under $20 - and that price more than doubles - that you would want to call it out specifically, so you are still able to claim you are selling the items for under $20. Calling out tariffs separately allows them to do that.

Bezos acknowledges that it was an idea they considered. Rumors probably got out and Trump decided to use them to make a political point: See - I can make the great Bezos back off.
